Heterosexual women experience an earnings decline after marriage, while changes in earnings tied to relationships are minimal and non-significant for bisexual and lesbian women.
Cohabiting or married men generally earn more than single menโregardless of sexual identity.
But for gay men, this "relationship premium" only appears after marriage, not cohabitation.
In contrast, heterosexual and bisexual men see earnings gains after entering any co-residential relationship.
