We desperately need media guidance on the reporting of homicide & #schizophrenia/#psychosis (as we do for reporting on #suicide).

The #media should contextualise reporting on incidents of violence/homicide & #schizophrenia & explain that statistically people with this diagnosis are rarely homicidal - they should have to make this VERY EXPLICIT to avoid stigmatising. #WorldSchizophreniaDay

The media play a huge role in perpetuating #stigma, especially news reporting about violence/homicide & #schizophrenia/#psychosis.

Lazy reporting causes real harm to those of us who live with this!!

Am getting this message out there early - Mon 20th Jan #BlueMonday (aka the most 'depressing' day of the year) is not only complete #pseudoscience, it also propagates a definition of #depression & its treatment that trivialises & thereby stigmatises it. IMHO activists should steer well clear of it!
