As an outside observer, this is also my read. They're there to provoke their political opposition.

The “dual state” theory was invented to describe Nazis. The Supreme Court could take us there. Authoritarianism—but make it look like the rule of law.

The more I look at things, the more it seems like certain Russian officials are trying to hit specific KPIs regardless of what crazy things they have to do, or chaos & damage results, or how dumb the KPI was to begin with.

But yes, in general you're right, you cant trust him. People like him, & him specifically, never give things away unless there's some other incentive that greatly motivates them. Like, could even be his polls--one thing D & R agree on is arming Ukraine, so this could be a ratings boost move, etc

I believed him when he said he'd send the National Guard to American cities. And when he killed Soleimani, and people in fast boats off the coast of Venezuela. Trump trying to make Trump look like a guy you don't want to mess with is on-brand for him, esp. when he feels like he's punching way down.

Trump called Putin a savvy genius upon the invasion. From that to Tomahawks. Something's up. I hope Trump doesn't mess this up, or use the offer as leverage on Ukraine somehow. Let this be the exception. It would erode a proverbial red line and signal Western approval for more.

Yeah, seems that way to me. Quite a shift from Donald unilaterally offering Ukraine to Putin on a plate and abandoning Europe in general. Either this is pure theater or something made Trump suddenly mean it. Could be so basic: Trump learning Ukraine is winning and now he want to be on that team.

As a retired journalism professor, I believe every newsroom in America must now develop Civil War Protocols: how it will conduct the profession of journalism when Donald Trump declares martial law and systematically ends our democracy. If your newsroom isn't prepared for this, it's rank malpractice.

It seems clear—I think to everyone, now—that a false and illegal invocation of the Insurrection Act is coming before the end of the year. Media outlets should be telling us how they will prepare for this potential Treason. State governments should be telling us. Activists should be developing plans.

Trump would only order the US military to attack his political enemies if he was sadistic, frightened, delusional, tricked, or cornered. Oh wait.

This seems insane, so insane that I have to wonder at the authenticity. Are we absolutely certain this is what it looks like? Because almost any normally functioning human adult would never view a toddler as a threat, nevermind binding their hands to prevent an incoming potential threat.

It’s disturbing to me, when I say to otherwise kind, intelligent, aware people, “wow, bad shit is happening”, and they reply to me, “Oh you have to not watch the news. Don’t read the papers! Just don’t think about it.”

And NO that is a TERRIBLE answer. That’s exactly how we got here to begin with.

I can't tell if these guys are getting ready for an assault or the remainder of one... cuz I've seen units where almost everyone is limping or crutching their way across open fields of fire to start with.
