Public safety is the first duty of government. ICE is not just failing to protect public safety in Minnesota – it is an active threat to it. The president must end this operation immediately and allow for a thorough investigation by state and local law enforcement.

The appropriations bill adds zero policy riders to reverse and reform these broken tactics, such as masking; warrantless street-grabs; operations in sensitive locations like schools; and derelict standards & training for the use of force.

Under Secretary Kristi Noem's failed leadership, ICE has morphed from an arm of the law into a presidential paramilitary. Rather than targeting criminals and prioritizing border security, ICE is harassing American citizens and immigrant communities.

With more funding than every other federal law enforcement agency combined, ICE does not need more money — it needs strict oversight and accountability.

I will vote No on the measure to fund ICE, because I do not support writing a blank check to a broken agency. ICE's budget was already tripled in last year’s Medicaid cuts bill.

ICE has become an instrument of fear, not an arm of the law. Congress should launch an impeachment inquiry into the DHS Secretary. She must answer for her leadership failure, and learn firsthand what due process looks like.
