Actually George VI was never on a bank note. They didn’t have anyone on UK bank notes in ye olden times before 1960.

Yes, but even the Queen was only on banknotes from 1960 onwards - still well within living memory.

This piqued my curiosity, and people were only put on banknotes from 1971 onwards in the UK.

When I said 'Kemi Badenoch is so partisan, under her the Tories would oppose puppies and kittens if Labour said something nice about them', I didn't mean it literally.

Lots of summer Saturday activity at Penzance. Peak 45050 heads the 10.50 Penzance - Manchester on the 31st July 1982. Two HST sets ready for departures to London. Meanwhile 47105 sits on the stock for the 11.05 to Leeds. There are three others 47s in the sidings although just two front ends can be seen. These are 47075, 47553 and 47567.No shunters in the picture but 08576 and 08644 were busy at the opposite end of the station.

#OnThisDay 174 years ago the West Cornwall Railway opened from Penzance to Redruth, partly over the mainly mineral 1837 Hayle Railway. Extending to Truro that August, it was isolated until connecting to the Cornwall Railway at Truro in 1860. A busy Penzance in July 1982: Clive Smith buff.ly/FKSeozp

Image of an early public demonstration of the telephone, captioned "new phone, who dis?"

It's the 150th anniversary of the first telephone call, and who can forget Alexander Graham Bell's first, immortal words?

With fuel prices going up rapidly, should we maybe consider encouraging more people to take the train where possible as part of the solution? A monthly ticket giving unlimited travel on local and regional transport for example like some other countries have done?

Yesterday I filmed several baby birds walking across a street directly at my camera and asked Bluesky to suggest music

Several dozen folks did

Some even dubbed music over the original clip.

I haven't been able to get this out of my head.

So I give you

A Bluesky exclusive:

If I had a nickel for every time Franz Ferdinand was involved in the precursor events of a world war, I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird it happened twice
