I had never realized that the mushrooms linked all the other plants together with this underground network of mycelium. My art director, Yazz Alali, and I felt it was a fitting visual for songs dedicated to the musical community I’ve become a part of here in LA. Full video is at the link in my bio!

When I was recording these songs, I was recording them at night, in a darkened house, on a darkened street. The theme of mushrooms seemed perfect because they’re nocturnal, and I had been reading about mushrooms and their root systems.

I recently put out an EP of three songs from my new solo piano album, 'good night, los angeles.' These songs are accompanied by a beautiful animated (mushroom-themed) video, created by my friend Sarah Nelson.

Another year in the young and extremely eventful life of “Someone Like You,” which Adele and I wrote over a couple of days in early 2010 and which came out here in America a year later. Happy birthday to a life-changing song and collaboration. Thank you to Adele and the gods of songwriting!

It might seem "unromantic" to write a song for the explicit purpose of getting the audience involved at your shows. But once you're working on it, you’ll forget your initial hesitation. It’ll be fun. Later when you’re playing a gig, you’ll be happy to have a bunch of songs that get the crowd going.
