Nice! I run a lot of Call of Cthulhu, so this is interesting; thanks. Have you seen Bleak Prospect, by @sdorward.bsky.social? Similar to period!

"We are WINNING so much. In fact, there is SO MUCH winning I want others to come and enjoy it too with their navies. Come on, all this victory can't last forever. First one to say YES gets their tariff dropped to 10%!"

A long, but quite delightful, read, on Banksy, who he probably is, and how Massive Attack is involved.

I think Connery in From Russia With Love is his best as a spy movie. Goldfinger is overrated; Bond is captive for nearly half the movie! Then if you want looney superspy, you have You Only Live Twice (with its troubling racial stereotypes)

An excellent point. Jon's fuck-ups caused thousands of deaths. They should have let him die.

Even on its own terms it's almost sadistically brutal on characters who makes stupid mistakes...except Jon Snow. I know he's a bit of a Hero's Journey subversion, but he stumbles through life making errors that would be ruinous for anybody else!

What was their policy on Anglo- Saxon invective? Was much editing required?

Stating the obvious, this helped Brexit. Details-free utopianism is emotionally satisfying and great for campaigning! Actual detail bores disengaged voters *and* provides 'it's unworkable/too expensive' fodder for political journos. Policy plans are discouraged; populists thrive. Madness.

"Who should be the first test subject for our 'fire into the sun' cannon?"

Tbf, he'd be on a pretty long list of candidates.

It's gobsmacking how so many on the right is all 'help bomb the baddies!', when we can all remember how this turned out the last three or four times. In the same part of the world. Recently.

History isn't just rhyming here; it's using the same iambic pentameter.

Am I wrong in thinking there's something to Tom Nicholls' view on this? That many middlish class people are comfortable, safe - and increasingly bored. And claiming minorities are criminals/cheats gives them a giddy high, cos they feel like righteous victims (rather than cruel bigots)?

Agreed on both points. Zack's feelgood utopianism seems unencumbered by reality, but more Green MPs may expand the public's mindset of what is politically possible (and desirable).

Sincere condolences. And I think recognising the humanity of those around us, and helping them in small ways, is a beautiful gesture.

I think it's possible Starmer thought it was a realpolitik move to protect Britain (ie sincerely done), but it was an obviously terrible call and chauvinist to boot.

I have a little pity, but he's got no judgement, no political sense and undercut his own stated principles.

Nothing would have shocked me about Donaldson, given Thomas Covenant. Glad to hear he seems to keep his depravity on the page!

I feel this! Chopped pineapple seems to be a treat my two *will* eat. More of an effort to prep, however.

Agreed. In addition, I'm still hoping Jamie Thomson, Mark Smith, Ian Livingstone, Joe Dever, plus some of the big guns likes Stephen King, Ursula Le Guin and Tolkien avoid the creep reveal.

Interestingly, James Herbert appears clean too, despite some *very* dodgy scenes in some of his books...

Of the many, many ills to lay at Starmer's door, I'd never really considered mysogyny before. I (naively?) hadnt thought of him personally as a chauvinist, but if his hand-picked inner circle are, I guess there's little practical difference.

HG Wells interviewed Stalin! He was very 20th century too.

What is truly mad is that Tesla's revenue fell, profit fell *a lot*, and it said it needed to spend $20 billion on unproven technology. And the share price rose! Musk's most effective transportation is the hype train, and too many investors have bought lifetime tickets.

A picture of her mauled body being dragged off by a polar bear and leaving a trail of gore would be geographically more accurate, but might serve to even further muddy the message...
