mind the gap is one of my favorite episodes of all time and i often wonder what would have happened if squidward forced spongebob to keep up the facade, become his agent, take all the fame and make it about him... spongebob only wanted to have fun with his best friend.. but now,

…and last thing because I know that everybody was waiting to hear it: yes I do think it’s hot that most of the episode is him splitting his pants and showing his butt to people. yes I think it was made to appeal specifically to me. 🙄🙄🙄 thank you and goodnight everybody. 💛

so maybe he has learned his lesson a little bit, going back to the beginning when he was embarrassed to rip his pants by accident.

but yeah that’s about everything! I love this ep a lot, that it shows SpongeBob’s flaws, how he acts with a crush, and that good early seasons charm!

he rips his pants (underwear) one final time AND SOMEBODY WHISTLES??? that was definitely me btw not clickbait.

do I think he deserved it? yes, so that I could see it! lol but also bc he seems more embarrassed this time than gratified by it-

I think a lot about how later in MuscleBob BuffPants the same thing happens again—he wants to impress Sandy, he gets jealous of Larry, and pretends to be someone he’s not for validation.

he’s easily strewn by whatever he thinks will make people like him, singing about his woes-

now for the ending: everyone is cheering for him, Sandy makes up with him, and even Larry thinks he’s righteous.

SpongeBob says he’s learned his lesson but I don’t think that’s true. he gets validation from this, sure, but it seems like another stunt to get attention…

“and no girl ever wants to dance with a fool who went and ripped his pants” definitely implies his crush on Sandy

also I like to think this funny singing voice he has is just a trick he’s able to do. he can sing normally but he has this deeper one for seeming “cool”.

and then comes my favorite scene and song in the whole show: the ripped pants song. SpongeBob explains what happened and his mistakes and the lyrics are… interesting.

he says “Larry came around just to put him down” but Larry was just innocently hanging out with him and Sandy.
