When I got my first #overlock machine, I thought it would replace my #sewing machine so I made an entire project with it. I made a mistake and had to learn how to unpick a 4 thread seam. Any time I feel completely defeated by life, I remember that I made it through that day.

Working with a nearly sheer striped rayon. To prevent the stripes in the seam allowance from showing through, I pulled the indigo threads. As a bonus, I can use the pulled threads for topstitching.

in the 90’s, I made several rayon challis dresses that simply fell apart in the wash. Now I always use french seams to contain the wiggly, ravelly mess that is the seam allowances. Why do all the fun fabrics have to be so difficult?

It’s a good time to buy some basics that can be adapted into slopers. I’ll miss the designer Vogue and the vintage reprints the most.

as a tall-ish person, many of my historic dress have ruffles like this. I recommend Ikea sheer curtains if you want a scalloped eyelet that’s long enough for a regency dress. most folks can get a whole dress from one panel.

When repurposing fabric, sometimes you have to get creative. This “one piece” collar is four quadrants with seams at center back and along the fold line. Under collar is on cross grain because it won’t show.
