I struggled with this for a long time, but the solution is simple, it is the opposite of what my intuition tells me. Works well enough.

Recently updated my father’s setup with USM Haller. I wanted to use Tolomeo lamps that integrate into the desk but our monitors take a lot of space despite the main desk being 2x1m. LMU if you have any questions.
