Abbie! Yeah, I do actually like Watership Down a lot. It more than deserves its spot in the literary canon. But personally, I like HU more, I think it does some XF stuff particularly well. It’s made me feel emotions only a handful of other books ever have. Looking forward to Thrive!

Like when Oslo reveals Naito supposedly wants to kill Elite, it falls flat because we have already been inside Naito’s head enough to know he genuinely loves him. So yeah, pretty mediocre book, might give it a 4/10. Naito is good boy though

OK your posts about this book convinced me to read it, and it was…okay? The story is kind of fun, but the writing is so awkward! The author flits between every character’s POV - sometimes mid paragraph - when the whole book could have worked fine from Wulfur, Elite, and I guess Quade’s perspective.

I finished it a month ago. I get a strange feeling of nostalgia for the book’s portrayal of the 2030s. Everything is objectively going to shit, but it’s also an age of heroes. That Seige chapter…

I loved the trippy ideas and unfathomable scope of the book, but I found the way the characters reacted to things hard to buy. Like, the idea of global mass hysteria due to people learning about the doomsday argument is laughable.

No he didn’t. He said he was completely fine with people shipping them, but it wouldn’t be the focus of the show, and this was before any proper fandom even existed to pressure him either way.

Whenever someone mentions Legend of Galactic Heroes, I always for a split second think they are talking about Galactic Superheroes

My understanding is they want to bring back mammoths as one part of restoring the Pleistocene mammoth steppe ecosystem. The mammoths would stomp out trees, exposing grasses, and the grasses absorb more CO2, hopefully slowing permafrost melt and climate change.
