That essentially led to the end of the USSR and started a new, 22 year long period of peaceful independent Ukraïne. This is how much time Russians gave Ukraïnians, and then started the war of aggression which now lasts for almost 10 years.

OTD, December 1st, Ukraïne celebrates an anniversary of the Independence referendum which was held abiding by the constitution of the USSR. The result was unambiguous: more than 92% voted for independent Ukraïne. Every region voted more than a half for that. Yes, including Crimea and Donbas.
