World rugby: Okay. So you can win this entire tournament
Ireland: Okay, great!
World rugby: as long as England win their game.
Ireland:...
World Rugby: So obviously you would want England to-
Ireland: -Shush I'm thinking.
💯
Pretty wild that Yukon is just behind Alaska for most medals overall!
There's I think something like 80-90,000 people in Fort McMurray? Or there were before the fire, anyway. Plus a few smaller communities in the area.
Yeah, Alaska is at least 7x bigger than any other jurisdiction, I'd guess. (And more like 20x bigger than most of them.)
It would be nice in theory if we could keep circumpolar politics out of a youth competition but like... there used to be a Russian contingent in these Games. The remaining teams come from Canada (various), Greenland, Alaska, and Sami country. The politics feels pertinent to many of them, I'm sure.
Apparently some Yukon kids responded with a "who's your president" chant before being shushed by parents and coaches.
Alaska's U18 men's hockey team has defeated the Yukon 5-4 to win the gold medal match at the Arctic Winter Games. I've gotta say, the AWG vibes have been immaculate, but word from folks who were there say the Alaska celebration was pretty hostile and aggro towards the Yukon crowd. A bummer.
Not many people know this, but it's anatomically impossible to say the words "Statistics Canada" correctly on the radio

Definitely unusual!!
Minus-34.5 at my house this morning...
I don’t know that for a fact but they look super alike! I expect T has genes in common with a lot of Iditarod teams lol.
I have some complicated class feelings about the opera-and-ballet discourse tbh but I also currently seem to have the good sense to go walk the dog and think about them in the privacy of my own brain. Personal growth?
😅
Happy almost-equinox, y’all 😩
California has legislation today to ditch DST and restore permanent Standard Time. Tell your CA state lawmakers to sponsor SB-1197 & SCR-7! www.votervoice.net/ditchDST/Cam...
1) These are gorgeous, and I looove that the dogs are wearing them throughout the race. (I at first assumed they were just for the ceremonial start!)
2) The lefthand dog in that first photo is definitely related to my own retired former racer.
Whereas my strongest association with it is The OC...
Who ARE these people? Nightmare behaviour.
A very cool and necessary project from @sandyernestallen.bsky.social and @maris.bsky.social:
"The event in which he now stars is so punishing on the knuckles that volunteers stand by to mop up traces of blood and other detritus in the aftermath." Hot damn I love Arctic Sports.
Missed seeing this event live today, but it's the talk of the town at the #ArcticWinterGames in Whitehorse!

I remember this one!
Lots of folks asking how to join the class. My lawyers' emails and contact-form here. As well as the complaint if you want to take a look.

First time ever!!
Extremely cool to see a retired James Paxton pumping gas and throwing nasty sliders to close out Canada's first advance out of the group stage at WBC. Sports is fun!
C'mon now, Big Maple!
