I know we're talking grandfathers, but on my dad's side I'm still the first/only woman in my family to graduate from high school (grandma and her sisters had to work on the farm; no girls in my dad's generation; my girl cousin hit a real rough patch) and I really try not to take that for granted.

My other grandfather, who died long before I came along, was a metallurgical engineer and the only one of my grandparents with any post-secondary education.

My grandpa learned drafting in the army (he snuck in underage during WWII) and ultimately became a construction estimator. Pretty much the only one in his family who didn't wind up on the assembly line at GM in Oshawa.

I must shamelessly suggest that British Columbians should read this.

The frustrating thing in the Yukon survey/consultation was they only gave us the choice between the status quo at the time (seasonal time changes) and permanent DST, without even offering year-round standard time. Not sure if BC did the same!
