It was a big day for the Berlow Lab at the BCBP departmental retreat last week. I am incredibly proud of Emily Sipko and Jamie Do for giving such wonderful presentations about their research and being recognized for their excellence in research and communication by our peers. Congratulations!!! 🎉

The Berlow lab uses solution NMR and biophysical approaches to uncover how IDP sequence, dynamics & function drive transcriptional regulation.

The damage to science is irreparable. Scientists who are valuable are leaving now. This offered some hope, but now it’s clear reason has completely gone out the window.

My dear friends and neighbors have been displaced from their home in Chapel Hill due to flooding from Sunday night’s storm. The number of families displaced by the floods are being hugely underreported and many people in our community need our help. Please help if you can.

A *huge* problem. It also includes search committee positions, review requests, letters of recommendation, P&T reviews (so, so many of these post tenure)—it goes on and on. And the social penalties for women saying no are so dramatically higher than when men say no.

It’s been a very busy month but it is never too late to celebrate Jake Simmons and his advancement to candidacy in the @unc-bcbp.bsky.social PhD program.

Anyone have a lead on replacement syringes for Malvern VP-ITC instruments? They no longer sell them, and they want me to upgrade to the PEAQ system. Unfortunately, we have a PEAQ-ITC, and it doesn't work with the concentrations needed for nanoparticle experiments. #chemsky #biophysics #ITC

Our celebrations were made complete by a visit with Taz the miniature therapy horse! Thanks to @unclibrary.bsky.social for giving us a chance to unwind with a friend named after one of our favorite protein domains!

Yesterday we celebrated Jamie Do, who passed her oral qualifying exam with flying colors to officially become our lab’s 2nd PhD candidate! 🎉
