There's still *so much* to do and uncertainty remains in the long-term.

BUT...very grateful to my local union exec @lancasterucu.bsky.social and my LUCU colleagues for getting my employers to remove CR in the very near future

Onwards and Solidarity

COP30: UN climate talks fail to secure new fossil fuel promises Nearly 200 countries attended COP30, which aimed to commit the world to take more action on climate change.

As the climate emergency begins to bite a few world leaders meet with a lot of fossil fuel lobbyists and can't even agree that fossil fuels are a problem. Truly frightening. We need radical action not weak willed leaders scared to stand up to the rich and powerful.

Me, James Baldwin and the Un-fragmenting of Euro-modern Time Or how do we enter into a time present, of things future?

Here I reflect on how Baldwin's writing unsettled my fixed idea of linear European time, which traps us into repeating history's evil patterns. 'Instead of speaking about the civil rights movement, let us pretend that I am a survivor of the latest slave rebellion.'

This week, a first-year undergraduate told me their favourite period of EngLit is early modern and they particularly loved Richard Barnfield's writing (which we don't teach). I was thrilled to direct them to your amazing collection of essays πŸ˜€

THis is still a major victory! It shows that exposing management's unsound financial decision-making alongside tireless organising and pressure works! We hope this sends a message of strength and solidarity to sister unions accross the sector✊

BUT the dispute is NOT over! Serious concerns remain about the university’s financial mismanagement and the consequences of programme closures for staff. We need a long-term solution and we will continue to fight for it!

Our first thanks must be to Eoin Price for organising such a important British Shakespeare (BSA) conference on "Shakespeare, Race, and Nation" at Swansea University in 2019, and to all the speakers and auditors at that event. We are especially grateful to all the speakers who took part in that conference's "Shakespeare and Translation" seminar, whose papers and discussion points helped shape the inaugural idea for [this book]: Luis J. Conejero-Magro, Carolina Conte, Coen Heijes, Marina Kitzma, Maureen McDonnell, Paulo da Silva Gregorio, Michael Slater, Kathryn Vomero Santos and Roberta Zanoni.
We are very appreciative of the time Preti Taneja spent talking to us about translation via Teams during the global pandemic, as this conversation helped to inspire new ideas and to consolidate others that have benefitted the collection well beyond the interludes themselves.
Thank you to Varsha Panjwani and Brandi Adams for their input during the essay collection's formation, and to Sijing Lu for taking the time to share her translation expertise as the volume neared completion.
Thanks also to Jessica Chiba and Tetsu Motoyama for their roles on the organising committee of the "Found in Translation: Understanding Shakespeare through Intercultural Dialogue" conference held at Waseda University in 2022, which included helping the delereach Tokyo at a time when the logistics were still rather challenging! The ideas discussed

at this conference led directly to the creation of an additional chapter, as well as adding further impetus to the collection as a whole.
Finally our biggest thanks must be to our contributors for working so closely and supportively throughout.
