I am very happy with how it turned out :)
implemented one of the games main combat gimmicks today: Normals!
you have three seconds to mash out as many normals as you can for a high combo, but the heavier the input the more of your frames it eats up.
not very impressive considering i was just 90% following a tutorial, but i DO now have 90% of an RPG combat system :)

overhauled the soda screen entirely (it was previously drawing in the room instead of to the GUI lmao) and fixed the "Are You Sure?" screen to work at any resolution and with more than just the mouse.

I kinda just made it based on a SaraJS tutorial where she only ever uses it to load into a room, so fitting stuff like tool tips and the rebind menu and everything is just such an insane nightmare
Controller is not technically supported for every single gameplay instance, but this will be changed by the time the next build releases. Currently theres just no way to select a soda from the machine on gamepad but thats it afaik

Controller support was already in the game but the default bindings were weird and there was no way to change them, both of which change now!!!

i do not have a website specifically for NEWT though lol
One of the main reasons i reworked the player characters code is because there were just like layers upon layers of bandaids and repeat blocks of code that could be pared down.
the 1 variable that JUST determines if you should be facing left or right was actually an amalgam of like 5 variables lol
so yeah, besides the secret side project that i showed on the patreon, this is mostly why there havent been any cool updates, but i am working on it basically every day.
22.06.2025 17:24 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'm also taking this opportunity to update Input (the gamepad support system i use) to the newest version, and try and make the game entirely accessible for controllers, featuring new layouts, and if i can figure it out, the ability to re-bind controls.

I also COMPLETELY rewrote Newt (the character)'s code to not be an insane nightmare mess thats like 5k lines in one create event lol (its like 500 now)
yo i wanna just do a little public thing to let people know whats up cus besides the patreon posts its been pretty quiet around here.
So the main thing is pretty much that I've entirely reworked how many huge mechanics work, specifically ones that are old and hard for me to work in
I'll post a public video when its presentable, this is very much a work in progress
