Twice in the past 30 days, the choir I'm in has been asked to sing a song we're not ready to sing. It's still not as bad has having an editor hovering over your desk when you're still two sources short of a brief.

One of my mom's lifelong besties (she has two because there's no rule saying you can't have two best friends) has a son slightly older than me. While we both have gone bald, he has far fewer grey hairs in his beard. If my mom brings it up again, I'm dyeing them orange before I visit her next.

It's a good day at work.

Today in Richmond is a giant small town, I was on the phone with a freelancer and suggested she talk to one of our editors. They've never met before. They were sitting next to each other in a coffee shop.

While I like being able to again get through all 18 minutes and 40 glorious seconds of By the Time I Get to Phoenix, I miss all the familial crackles and pops.

I have to replace the family copy of Hot Buttered Soul because we literally wore it out after 56 years.

Out of boredom one day, I searched for "Elliott & Robinson" in Google Maps. It pulled up this bar in Baltimore. In 2023, for my 40th birthday, I went there.

At my first two journalism jobs (2006 and 2008), new employees had to work for a year before being eligible for vacation days. And then not taking those two weeks total were a badge of honor.

After being off and mostly ignoring the news for 18 calendar days, I have 1,200 unread emails, an obscene number of Slack messages (that I mass marked as read) and I almost wish I still didn't know what's going on.
