20.03.2025 12:52 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Mental health support โข Mind runs a support line on 0300 102 1234 as a safe and confidential place to talk openly. It also has an information line, on 0300 123 3393, for details of where to get help near you. And its welfare benefits line โ 0300 222 5782 โ supports anyone with mental health problems who is navigating the benefits system. โข Samaritans is there to talk to you for free 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Call them on 116 123 or email jo@samaritans.org. โข The disability charity Scope has a forum where you can chat in a supportive atmosphere to people going through the same experiences. โข NHS England has an online mental health triage service.
Benefits support โข The Trussell Trust's Help through Hardship helpline, on 0808 208 2138, is a free and confidential phone service offered alongside Citizens Advice that provides advice to people experiencing hardship. You can also find your local Trussell Trust food bank here. โข Benefits and Work provides guides, forums and newsletters to help people navigate the benefits system and get the support they are entitled to. This includes benefit applications and appeals. โข Turn2Us provides a free benefits calculator to help you find out what benefits you can claim, as well as a grants search service and a Pip Helper to assist you in applying for the benefit. โข The Law Centres website helps people find their local service for benefits support and more, while Advicelocal provides a search directory tool to find your local advice provider.
I know coverage of disability benefits can be very distressing. So, Iโve worked with colleagues to make a range of support visible on The Guardianโs site.
If you click on a relevant news story, youโll see a โdrop boxโ of signposted mental health help as well as benefits advice.
You've heard enough from us so find out directy from Not F**kin' Sorry's audience on why you shouldn't miss this show!
Tomorrow at @mercurytheatre.bsky.social and across the UK in March and April!

14.01.2025 21:58 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Screenshot of a Guardian article, reading: "Drama schools have been particularly hard hit by the previous governmentโs decision to cut funding for arts subjects to prioritise Stem subjects, which fall within the disciplines of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Top-up funding for creative and performing arts courses, which are expensive to run, was frozen at ยฃ16.7m in 2024-25, resulting in a real-terms cut due to inflation. In 2020-21 the grant was worth ยฃ36m, before it was cut nearly in half by Gavin Williamson, the then education secretary. Nick Hillman, the director of the Higher Education Policy Institute, said although many of the affected smaller specialist institutions were world leading, a high proportion were struggling. Courses are expensive to deliver because of a high student-to-staff ratio and they lack the economies of scale enjoyed by larger institutions. โIt risks becoming a national catastrophe for these institutions that specialise in areas where the UK is traditionally top notch,โ Hillman said."
The absurd idea that the arts (or anything for that matter) should somehow be cheap, profitable, and still world-leading at every stage from primary school to post-grad still seems to have a stranglehold on policy-makers despite the damage we're seeing daily
