The Ballad of Wallis Island film review β Carey Mulligan and Tim Key bring soul to a melancholy farce

I sat down with Tim Key, Tom Basden and James Griffiths to discuss their charming, earnest and quintessentially British comedy βThe Ballad of Wallis Islandβ. As you can see it was an absolute joy talking to these 3 chaps;

The Ballad of Wallis Island is in cinemas 30 May.
The brilliant 'Ballad of Wallis Island' tells the story of an eccentric winner who forks out to bring his favourite band back together. But the question remains, who would stars Tom Basden, Tim Key and Carey Mulligan choose if money was no object...

Warning: this podcast contains relentless gushing over The Ballad Of Wallis Island, a discussion of the best films that start in media res (but we didnβt mention your favourite film, probably), and Al Pacino yelling in German.
30.05.2025 22:13 β π 25 π 1 π¬ 2 π 0The Ballad Of Wallis Island is in UK cinemas from today. I love it to pieces. Tim Key had me laughing uncontrollably, relentlessly... and then crying. It's an extremely funny and very touching, often sincerely sad film about loneliness, loss, music, fandom, integrity, ego, vanity, the lot. See it!
30.05.2025 16:48 β π 9 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0The humour might be inconsistent, but thereβs real chemistry between Tom Basden and Carey Mulligan as former lovers and bandmates who meet again for a well paid one-off gig.
