My only gate for art is that humans make it
AI can make visuals, it can make images, it can't make art
Nobody's rights are being violated by this gate because AI isn't a person and doesn't have rights
AI isnāt art~
Itās not GOATed, itās a theft machine that also veritably steals your ability to think for yourself.
AI is fascist.
At this moment yeah, I was going to bed when I commented based on the post at face value itself, mb šš»
I was mentally comparing the thumbnail to SOGās thumbnail for the video on Kffls
I didnāt take the words as fact, more as relevant to why they made a video (and not direct accusations)
Yeah, again thatās not what Iām reacting to. I agree with reading more being good always
Assumptions about how much somebody has read/seen based on the quality of their work is erroneous and can easily result in problems for newbies when the belief is held by people in authority.
Have a nice day~
They also didnāt use a grotesque caricature in the thumbnail either, nice
I was compelled to respond because youāre making assumptions about what he said and about what I said, I needed to clarify that and pointed out. And that is why Iām no longer responding after this point.
Once again, have a good night.
Thatās a charitable assumption, and literally not what he said in the screenshot.
He could have said, as a literary professor, āwhat is your favorite bookā or work of fiction, etc.
He was specifically asking about authors and novelists, not about works.
Thatās clear in his statement.
Good and bad comes after youāre already the thing.
I think we just have different opinions and thatās fine. I hope you have a good day, Iāve said all I have to say.
I wish we could find common ground, but I donāt think that youāre accurately representing me when you try to repeat what Iāve said.
He says he wonāt be a novelist. Itās a unilateral statement.
He didnāt say youāre not going to be a good novelist , he didnāt say youāre not going to be as good as you could be as a novelist. He said youāre not going to be one.
This is why I donāt wanna dive too deep into the statement because thereās so much we donāt know about an anecdote like this. We only know what heās communicating now out of it. (Which includes not knowing what manga is or invalidating it entirely lol)š
There was a book I really enjoyed that I remember about shapeshifting dragons, the one about some political assassin ninja in a futuristic society with a plague and stuff
I also donāt tend to rank things based on my favorite, there is just a list of things that Iāve enjoyed and why.
Iāve read a lot of fiction books, if you asked me what my favorite novelist is I could not name an author, thatās just not how my brain works. Iām terrible with names and titles.
Itās not a lack of love itās literally just that I cannot remember stuff like that.
I think the assumption that devalues the other issues is based in the opinion that this isnāt important.
That might not be what youāre saying, but thatās the way I see it and why I chose to use the word.
Under authoritarianism and fascism.
Trying to limit who can and who canāt express themselves is very serious to me
Itās purposes to raise the importance of this issue, not to devalue a different issue
Youāre entitled to your opinion. I see the root cause of a lot of right wing ideology and authoritarianism and control as the same root.
I think exclusion should be taken very seriously, regardless of where it is, and because I see art as an invaluable human, right, which also tends to get denied
Iām not interested in debating everything in his statement. My issue is with the overall idea of invalidating and saying people cannot or wonāt be what they want to be based on something as simple as not being able to name a novelist on demand when they express interest in being one at 23-24 yrs old
And why I was thinking about it along those lines.
If it makes more sense to you based on what Iām describing, you can replace fascism with authoritarianism or any other better fitting word to a better understand my intent in a way that makes sense to you.
I didnāt include the original when I posted about it because I didnāt think it was important to the core of my issue with the idea and would lead to getting lost in the weeds
It coming from a professor in a position of authority and having these opinions probably influenced my use of āfascismā
It's very absolute language, extreme some might say.
I'm responding sincerely to that absolute tone.
I don't know that you are (in favor), so don't take my statement too personally if you're not.
If you are in favor gatekeeping art behind illogical metrics, I'll call you one
If you're not an elitist fascist then I won't call you one
Who may be seen as an authority, that also creates a bit of extra tension.
College senior median age is like 23-24. People have plenty of time to figure their shit out and become novelists even if they don't have a favorite one at that age.
Comics are valid art, manga is valid art, within which there's lots of writing. Video games have lots of writing. Shows have lots of writing.
Some video games *contain* novels.
In any case, I'm critiquing the broad idea and exclusionary process of the statement.
Since it comes from a professor,
I think he misses the impact of this point of view on aspiring people.
Just because the guy who said it is a professor also doesn't mean he's beyond critique for his ideas (comment on manga, fucking lol)
So I critique the idea and this brand of elitism.

The video, because I don't care if you disagree with my takeaway.
I agree with the lady he dunks on, I think he's cynical and sarcastic and I don't think think it's a healthy view on art, I think it's one that holds people back in thinking they aren't worthy to create.
The video has over half a million views and the guy has near 1mill subscribers, so my reason for posting about it was because I don't want the sentiment to be popularized due to my staunch disagreement with it as a standard and the elitist view it spreads (imo)
I heard the sentiment in a video that largely supported said sentiment, so unfortunately I'm not going to hunt down the link for you, but here's an image
The bit about Manga is the same place art teachers come from when they tell anime fans they'll 'never be an artist' if they can't draw realism
I'll accept criticism but you're really misrepresenting what I'm saying and making whole new sentences up without bothering to ask me to clarify what you clearly misunderstand.
I thought you just didn't like my use of fascist, but the rest of what you said makes it clear nothing is getting across
It's not that I don't like criticism, I'm open minded and down to engage with people who disagree with me. I had my reasons to use it, albeit informal (www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/f...)
Wanting less elitism is elitist? Rly? When did I ever say I consider people with more experience my enemy?
