Honestly I am coming around to the idea that almost all artists are monsters. Truly good artists are the exception, not the rule.
Oh women are people now? Sounds woke to me.
It's pretty annoying when people engage in revisionism about media whose creators were canceled. Firefly was good; maybe overpraised at the time because people wanted more of it. It is fine and I had fun watching it.
This feels like a too-cute way to excuse film people from doing anything. Speaking about issues at an award show should be THE FLOOR, not something we can't possibly expect people to do.
I feel like all the posts blaming Schumer for Platner's rise are letting Maine voters a little off the hook. Sure, Mills is a bad candidate, but sometimes you have to choose the bad candidate over the guy with Nazi tattoos.
Inside every Arbuckle there is a Garfield, waiting to become free.
I love that everybody is pretending to love ballet and opera to dunk on Timothee Chalamet.
In honor of Michael B. Jordan’s Oscar win, here’s a meme that has been stuck in my head since like 2020.
Disappointed that not one acceptance speech at the Oscars proposed a strategy to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
At least seven people died, and the postcredits ended with an inspirational quote from ... God? OK.
It's just one battle after another
I hope Coogler releases a director's cut someday, because I think 3.5 hour version of Sinners would correct my issues with it. Letting the second half breathe a little bit might elevate it from "very good" to "masterpiece" territory.
The thing I keep coming back to in Sinners is that it is a great historical movie and a great Black movie, but I don't think it's a great vampire film. There's too much shorthand and tropes in that part of the film.
The message of Sinners is that if an Irishman appears at your door do not, under any circumstances, let him in.
David Ellison writing “Two Battles After Another?” on a napkin at the Vanity Fair party.
We're back in Cyprus again, in a weird medievalish cloister with coffee mugs that definitely came from Ikea
They are all wearing t-shirts in a high tech police room. And it suddenly flashbacked to Cyprus twelve years ago? what is going on? no i won't turn the sound on
I have a local channel on muted to watch out for weather alerts, and NCIS Hawaii is on and it is so bizarre I suspect I am hallucinating.
I was going to yell about this, but I think the "only" is pretty important. There is plenty of good art that is *also* propaganda. But rarely does acclaimed art operate on just the level of propaganda.
Sinners winning Oscars over Saint Patrick's Day weekend feels anti-Irish to me.
I am glad that Michael B. Jordan won an Oscar for Sinners, but why didn't the actor who played his brother receive one also?
Paul Anderson won an Oscar? The director of Event Horizon?
Yeah--that's basically tomorrow for us. Today it was in the seventies, tomorrow the twenties.
Man, we have been having some WEATHER in my neck of Ohio. Two days of wind; literal dust storms. Now there's tornadoes in the general area (no tornado watch or warning in my town ... yet).
Jesus when he comes back to Earth:
K-Pop Demon Hunters getting recognition is satisfying for parents of young kids who had the rare opportunity to be ahead of the trend on a popular movie for once.
Amendment to the above skeet: "Beats them senseless AND steals their lunch money."
Hot take: It's OK for AEW to feature a transphobe, as long as they get beaten senseless.
