It’s a deeper flavour than lean beef and richer mouth-feel, even though it’s leaner than beef. It’s delicious. Although caribou is even better!

My grandmother (born 1934) and everyone I knew’s grandmother used both words. 45ish years ago. But that was down the bay, not on the peninsula. So it seems it was regional.

My BF’s mom made us chicken with fries, dressing & gravy ever Saturday afternoon.

I would assume it’s the same reason English speaking people call Germany Germany and not Deutschland, etc.

We use English names for lots of countries that use a different word in their language to refer to themselves.

When I grew up in Newfoundland stuffing was the moist version that was inside the turkey and dressing was the drier, finer crumb texture made outside the turkey and used for cold plates.
