Those are just a few things that helped me pass the first round of VShojo's auditions. In the past I also got through another agency's first round due to my history as a podcast host (and this was even before I was a vtuber!). Good luck, everyone!

- Come up with a list of realistic goals you want to reach by 3 months, 6 months and one year (ie. I want to release 1 cover song by debut and a second one within 6 months)

- Focus on what relevant skills and experience you have outside of vtubing which will aid you behind the scenes. You will be expected to manage your own timetable, schedule meetings, run projects so you need to show you take everything seriously and are committed

- If you're great at singing/dancing/artistic/anything else, you should try to show how successful you've been at turning those skills into something popular/profitable
- Even if you don't have those skills you should show an enthusiasm to learn by committing to taking lessons

- Don't just focus on vtubing skills and how funny you are because everyone else you're going up against will share the same skill set

Regardless, you should always be aware of what you're being offered in exchange for your appearance. If you feel you're being taken advantage of then step back and consider your options!

Lastly, if you run a panel you don't have to do it alone. Consider reaching out to other vtubers you may not know very well but trust them to do well and have a good reputation (since someone with a bad rep could jeopardise your participation in the con or your own rep). Offering another vtuber a spot on a panel could be a really cool experience for them and lead to some good things (it's how we ended up creating our group the VIRTULANTES). The biggest strength we have as vtubers is our ability to go to any con without the need for travel. It allows us to connect with audiences across the world, so don't confine yourself to just local cons. Forge as many connections as you can and create as many opportunities you can! Conventions have become a major part of the vtuber experience, so let's get more of them interested and able to host vtubers!

Another thing I didn't mention is the payment situation. It's... tricky. Some cons can't pay and there are some who will but there are also those who won't for vtubers

Are there alternatives for vtubers to attend a convention? There are! Some vtuber-related companies or groups set up meet and greets at their own booths, some of which you can sign up for (bear in mind not all of these are free to join). If you have an artist friend, they may be interested in hosting a vtuber at their booth if they're able. You can even set up your own booth if you're determined enough. I worked with SMASH! to create my own vtuber booth and invited over 40 vtubers to it! And of course, you can always go the guerilla route and get a friend to carry you around on a tablet/ipad. Just make sure to be mindful of others and add a "NOT LIVE" sign to your screen. One thing to note is that internet will not always be reliable depending on the location. You may not get much opportunity to test but always expect everything to go wrong, so prepare as best you can for it.

Alternatives to becoming an official con guest! (5/7)

Connections matter a lot in the convention world. So one of the best things you can do is get involved and volunteer. This is important because knowledge on how to cater for vtubers at a con is often lacking, so they are excluded as potential guests. Getting people who are informed and enthusiastic about bringing vtubers to cons will be valuable going into the future. Also, most cons suffer from a lack of volunteers so please consider helping them out! I often wore several different hats when I was running a con - I wrote all the documentation, worked out the timetables, did guest relations, created the con layouts and even hosted and ran panels. Despite the stress, it was through those wonderful experiences that I became the vtuber I am today! But what about those applications? Don't just look at the guest applications (and definitely don't spam them suggesting yourself). Consider applying to run a panel instead. You never know if a con will offer you a meet and greet spot or ask you to be an official guest based on your panel application (if not that same year but perhaps in the future).

When applying either as a guest or to run a panel, there are a few things I like to keep in mind: - Research the con itself and their focus. Most cons will cater towards some fandoms or hobbies more than others. This could be to your advantage, such as a furry vtuber applying to a furry con, or a cartoon vtuber at a comic con. Consider your niche too! If you're an artist, cons with a big artist alley could be a good idea to apply for. If you are a lewdtuber, perhaps you could apply to a con which has late night adult-only panels. - Check if the con has a certain theme that year and try to adjust your application to be more in line with what that theme is. You should also check if there are any guests already announced and see if you can offer content related to them. For example, if a guest involved in mecha anime is going perhaps you could run a fun mecha quiz panel attendees may be interested in. - Numbers don't always matter when it comes to your application! What matters is bringing your strengths and expertise to the con. If you can make people laugh, teach something new, amaze people with your skills - those are all super valuable! Most people at Animefest had no idea who I was but I still managed to get a good number of people at my panel listening and asking questions!

Don't just apply to be a guest and other ideas for applying (4/7)

First up, be aware many cons will scout their own guests rather than take applications. This is done in a few different ways: - Some will take suggestions from their community about who they'd like to see in the future and will reach out to those people to try and make it a reality. - Smaller cons usually make use of their community connections to find guests. This is something we did at my con in the early days as we had some volunteers who were friends with or had good rapport with well-known people in their respective hobby/fandom. - Many cons will use the connections forged over years to find new guests who may have tangentially been involved in previous years and move them up into a guest role or a previous guest may recommend someone (who they may or may not know but trust them). - Staff for a con may go scouting online looking for someone based on certain criteria or they may find someone and love their content enough to want them as a guest.

How cons find guests 🤔 (3/7)

I was asked a while ago about how to become a guest at cons and if I could write a tutorial. If there was a sure-fire way to become a guest, I would love to know. Whilst I can't give any guarantees, I used to be involved in running a con and have been a guest at several cons now. So although this will be a little vague in places, hopefully it'll give you some insight.

Streamer Dilemma Q: I don't have many stories to talk about on stream, so what can I do to make myself come across as more interesting? A: Sometimes the answer isn't always in what you say but how you say it. Listen back to yourself - do you make up funny voices for situations, change your pitch and volume, vary how fast/slow you talk? How obvious are your emotions when you speak? It can be a little hard to get emotion across as a vtuber so it's worth learning how to make your voice more dynamic so your emotions are clearer to your audience. If your'e happy and excited to be streaming today, make sure your viewers can tell so they can be too!

🌟 Just a little something I've been thinking about. I don't tend to have many stories because of my memory so I try to put more effort into my voice. Lately, I've been listening to Gold Ship's VA a lot and her voice is very inspiring and fun!
