We applaud the judge for affirming the humanity and dignity of Black immigrants.
The administration has already said it plans to appeal this ruling.
So while today is a win, the fight is not over.
More than 200,000 Haitian TPS holders live in the U.S. and contribute billions of dollars to the economy each year across healthcare, education, transportation, agriculture, and more.
Targeting them harms everyone.
Despite claims that enforcement only targets people who commit crimes, TPS holders are highly vetted and pass background checks every time they renew.
TPS holders are workers, parents, caregivers, and community members.
Haiti continues to face a severe humanitarian crisis:
β’ widespread gang violence
β’ political instability
β’ collapsed public services
β’ food and water insecurity
These are exactly the conditions TPS was created for.
The court found serious legal problems with the administrationβs attempt to terminate TPS, including concerns about procedure and equal protection.
The government cannot ignore the law to target Black immigrant communities.
This ruling is an important moment of relief for hundreds of thousands of Black Haitian immigrants who were facing sudden loss of status, livelihood, and safety.
No one should have their life upended by political cruelty.
A federal judge just blocked the Trump administrationβs attempt to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian nationals. This means Haitian TPS holders keep their protections for now, including work authorization and protection from deportation.

In the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa, our government must provide Temporary Protected Status (TPS) protections for all Jamaicans here in the U.S.
