Kyle Dayton is a PhD candidate at Cornell University using geochemistry, mineralogy, and melt and fluid inclusions to understand the role volatiles have on geologic processes. In this webinar, Kyle will discuss how melt and fluid inclusions, both trapped within olivine phenocrysts during crystal growth, preserve valuable information about pre-eruptive magma storage conditions of volcanic eruptions. Utilizing the geochemical information preserved within these two inclusion types can reveal the history of magma chambers at depth and offer a window into the processes that occur prior to volcanic eruptions.
