But we are in unprecedented times & people my age are acutely aware of how much has changed and how dangerous the situation was is. It was republicans in Congress that told Nixon that he had to resign or he’d be impeached and convicted. No one is holding Trump accountable for this war or anything.
I am well aware of the Mai Lai massacre, I was alive during the entirety of that war, and I had a close family member that was a B-52 navigator for several years during the war. Of course there were atrocities, and it was f’d up with inconsistent rules of engagement and accountability.
As bad as Vietnam was it doesn’t compare. We were invited to participate in a civil war and often had severe limitations compared to now. Pilots couldn’t even take out anti-aircraft guns.
Iran’s people were facing a horrible shortage of water before the war began. If we are destroying desalination plants and setting fire to Teheran we are committing unfathomable crimes.
