i dont think the problem is the lack of distribution of the cloud's bare metal. the resiliency features are actually amazing.

its the institutional centralization in private hands of all the compute..

now if super partes entities ran data centres that work.. (looking at you EU) that would be cool.

there is just something i like about the efficiency of data centers. the idea we all run our own on prem makes me thing about "we should all grow our own veggie garden" yes cool but theres not enough farmland if we all did that.

i mean you are not wrong. i grew up in the cloud, but was lucky to have been mentored by solid old school engineers growing up.

when i talk about failsafes and redundant systems to new hires they stare at me like i'm an alien..

something is def getting lost in the click-ops generation.

if that happens tho, i know a thousand SREs are getting paged. i go have a coffee and let them sort it.

for small and medium biz that cannot staff dev and ops 24/7... shared responsibility model makes sense. in my humble opinion.
