Of course I forgot one more thing. Albuquerque finished with 14 extra-base hits to set a franchise high.
When hearing the score of this game, one might think all pitchers on both sides got completely rocked.
Not exactly. Topes starter Xzavion Curry worked five scoreless innings!
Adael Amador and Sterlin Thompson both have on base streaks of 20+ games. This has been a common occurrence for the team this year, as seven players have reached at least 20 games.
Oh yeah, the team also set a record with 51 total bases in a game. Previous most had been 47.
Ronaiker Palma tied a career high by going 4-for-6. Even got the RBI double to set the single-game team hits record at 26. Great to see after he has not received much playing time this season.
Aaron Schunk recorded the 32nd five-hit game in team history, and 33rd three-double contest. He continues to play very well in the second half.
Now to individual players. Sam Hilliard became the fifth Isotope to score five runs in a game. Two have happened this year, both against El Paso - as Hilliard joins Braxton Fulford. Joc Pederson, Noel Cuevas and Ryan Vilade have also done it in prior years.
This only happens in the PCL, but somehow yesterday was the 10th time the Topes won a game after allowing seven or more runs in an inning.
There have been a whopping 101 baserunners between Albuquerque and El Paso in the first two games of this series. I'm not sure how to calculate if that's ever happened in the PCL over a two-game span besides spending forever looking at box scores, but has to be close to a record.
We ripped nine doubles to tie a franchise record (also: 5/26/12 vs. OKC, 8/24/19 vs. FRE). In that 2012 game, current Sugar Land manager Mickey Storey's was the starting pitcher for the RedHawks, Houston's affiliate at the time.
Topes set a franchise record with 27 hits. Previous was 25, which happened in an extra-inning game. Most in a nine-inning contest was 24. It's just the fourth time since 2014 that any PCL club recorded 27+ knocks.
Alright, here we go.
Yesterday was the fifth time we scored 21+ runs in a game, and first time doing so this late in the season. It was the most runs ever plated in an away contest, surpassing 19 scored in Las Vegas on June 25, 2022.
The Topes had quite a record-setting day in El Paso today. Alas, I’m very tired and will share a bunch of tidbits in the morning. If I remember, I’ll just attach them to this thread. When you score 21 runs on 27 hits, it makes for quite a lot of entries in the history book.
