Hello, I’m a historian in a film. I only teach in massive lecture halls with hundreds of students and have never figured out how to manage class time so I’m always surprised when the students suddenly pack up and leave. I shout something about the upcoming exam that everyone ignores.

The author of the “study” was an anthropologist at UNC who studied human skulls to “prove” the races had different innate abilities and therefore justified school segregation. When “The Biology of Race,” by W.C. George was published, Wallace had “scientific” support segregation. 2/4

Student usage of AI understandably gets most of the attention. But generative AI has also made the written questionnaires in job applications useless.

Indiana Evangelicals Are Focusing on Creation Care With Environmental Work A cluster of evangelical groups in the state is pushing for environmental action. Leaders say they’re following the biblical mandate to care for creation.

And a shout out on #EarthDay2025 to my colleague Jennifer Noseworthy, who's featured in @nytimes.com talking about the work of #creationcare in an area where such words are not always welcome (largely because they are misunderstood).

Once widely respected as a symbol of American excellence and a global icon of cultural achievement, the Smithsonian Institution has, in recent years, come under the influence of a divisive, race-centered ideology. This shift has promoted narratives that portray American and Western values as inherently harmful and oppressive. For example, the Smithsonian American Art Museum today features “The Shape of Power: Stories of Race and American Sculpture,” an exhibit representing that “[s]ocieties including the United States have used race to establish and maintain systems of power, privilege, and disenfranchisement.” The exhibit further claims that “sculpture has been a powerful tool in promoting scientific racism” and promotes the view that race is not a biological reality but a social construct, stating “Race is a human invention.”

There are many wild things in Trump's EO about History but one that especially caught my eye was the complaint that the American Art Museum promoted the view that "race is not a biological reality." It's not! That's a true statement! The idea that race is biological was the foundation of racism!

I was in class with a group of students discussing your book when our university announced it was sending everyone home. Still associate your cover with that locked down spring in my mind!

I listened to the audiobooks of Jemar Tisby's "Spirit of Justice" about how Black Christians have stood up for their dignity & rights and then J. Russell Hawkins "The Bible Told Them So" looking at how white Southern Evangelicals preserved white supremacy & avoided desegregating schools & churches.

What a time to be teaching a class on Watergate. Tomorrow we’re covering the disastrous political implications of Ford’s full and unconditional pardon of RN. Not relevant today at all.
