π Global Conservation Efforts
We contributed to marine protected area planning in the Chagos Archipelago, supported reef monitoring in Fiji, and expanded conservation efforts in the Red Sea through key partnerships with @cordap_ and @redseasaudi.
Why is our Exec Director at the SOS Ocean Meeting?
"I am here to launch an SOS for corals, which are at risk of global collapse. Science is part of the solution but a societal tipping point is required to ensure they remain healthy for generations to come: we must face our responsibility." Carlos D

Bringing coral reefs back to life on Mnemba Island can only be achieved with the full support and involvement of those who depend on them: fishers, traditional leaders, young and old generations, tourist operators, government bodies, academic institutions.
10.01.2025 13:49 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0On Mnemba Island, in northern Unguja, Tanzania, everyone depends on corals. This has been true for many generations. The reefs support artisanal fishing and serve as a major attraction for tourists. Unfortunately, decades of overuse have severely degraded the reefs.
10.01.2025 13:49 β π 0 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Indeed it is not a one-solution-fits-all kind of problem. We need to address the situation from multiple sides. Reducing carbon emissions is a urgent priority. In the meatime, we are supporting science and scientists the best way we can: through funding their projects and prospective solutions.
06.01.2025 08:41 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Hey there π May 2025 be the year corals finally get some rest on bleaching and stressful events.
If you are as excited about #corals as we are, please wave us hello!
