Close up view of leaves on a tree. The leaves are autumnal colours, with little or no space between them. Some branches are visible between the leaves. The tree is a liquid amber.

A dead tree in the middle of a wooded area is in the centre of the frame. Someone has hollowed out the centre of the trunk, but left enough wood to carve out two owls inside of it.
For #BlueSkyArtShow theme #wood.
I absolutely love this carving of #owls inside a dead tree trunk at one of my favourite nature reserves. Artist unknown – but truly talented.

A new transportation system may soon connect the Universal Orlando theme parks - and it will likely be underground. On Wednesday, Feb. 11, the board of the Shingle Creek Transit and Utility Community Development District — a special purpose district that surrounds Universal's Florida properties — approved a resolution to begin contract negotiations with Elon Musk's The Boring Company. According to a statement from the district, the board received three proposals for "transportation infrastructure improvements" and found The Boring Company "best addressed the district's request for an innovative, future-ready, point-to-point solution."
Basically, Florida doesn't have subway tunnels because there would be way to much emphasis on "sub"...as in submarine. In about 80% of the peninsula, the water table is less than ten feet (3 meters) below ground level. The situation is slightly better in far northern Florida, but still pretty soggy. Building a subway system that requires half a billion dollars worth of pumping and bailing every year is a nonstarter. There is also the consideration regarding the fragility of Florida's underpinnings. Roughly half the state is karst terrain, a sort of eroding limestone formation. This topography leads to our many caves (most submerged) and sinkholes (many water filled). It's also the source of our drinking water, as huge quantities of mostly ancient freshwater move slowly from north to south through the two aquifers that occupy the soft and porous limestone that is Florida's basement. A major construction project like a subway, which could physically damage the aquifers would be met by nearly universal citizen opposition, it's even possible that Florida's "if it exists, pave it" politicians might realize it's a bad idea. We mostly prefer to be on top of the water here in Florida.
Pretty much all of the credulous reporting on Musk proposing to tunnel in Florida (fig. 1) doesn't acknowledge what everyone in Florida knows. (fig. 2)

Sea of Clouds (Unkai) at Tenguki Pass This breathtaking vertical landscape photograph captures the natural phenomenon known as unkai, or sea of clouds, at Tenguki Pass in Nara Prefecture. The image is a study in profound depth and atmospheric transition, featuring the silhouettes of receding mountain ridges in varying shades of deep indigo and midnight blue. A thick, ethereal carpet of white mist fills the valley floor, winding between the peaks like a silent, slow-moving river. The horizon is crowned by a vibrant band of fiery orange and soft amber light from the rising sun, which provides a striking, warm contrast to the cool, shadowed tones of the rugged terrain below.
