Capitalism is collectivist. It just demands subservience of the individual to economy rather than notions of common welfare.
Reject all forms of compelled association and conformity for the union of egoists.
The idea of people as organs of society obligated to serve the interests of that society to their own detriment is the cornerstone of fascism.
Also, the idea that capitalism is somehow “individualistic“ is and always has been capitalist propaganda.
Those three children would still have a father if their father hadn’t thrown his life away serving American imperialism.
look i dont really know who this "James Locker" guy is but i think we should stop shoving nerds inside him

Beautiful
Yeah. Gun control supporters and Democrats love cops. We know this.
The aggressive anti-theism in vogue among many leftists is rooted in the Eurocentric worship of Enlightenment-era rationalism is and closely related to colonialist narratives about civilization, “barbarism,” and “progress.”
Tbf some of them were drafted, refused to shoot at the enemy, and fragged their commanders.
The exception rather than the rule tho.

Being religious, or faithful, really is not connected to how good of a person someone is.
There are plenty of hateful atheists out there who find no shortage of justifications for their intolerance, and plenty of deeply religious people of all sorts of traditions who are loving & accepting.
Why does everyone who knows damn well they have never even thought about it for 5 minutes act like it's common knowledge that philosophy of mind has been solved for hundreds of years and you must be an idiot for not knowing The Right Answer
Example #23,532 of centuries-old questions in philosophy being dragged into the spotlight and reduced to fodder for bad faith partisan hacks to score points in a culture war
Why do you think Claude is no more conscious than a 2x4?
determine whether a machine had “gained sentience.” Then, besides the Christians and other singular-eternal-soul types, there were a subset who believed consciousness was uniquely an emergent property of organic brains.
that it’s sentient now leading to a sort of culture war around philosophy of mind, which is unfortunate.
I remember having debates in my college philosophy club about whether AI could be sentient back in like 2012. A common position then was that the Turing Test was the best option we had to
podcasts, and also twisting it in various ways to support their class interests, which led to the backlash of anyone playing with skeptical thought experiments like the brain-in-a-vat getting tarred with the same brush.
You have the tech billionaires trying to sell AI with sensationalist claims
It’s always a bummer to me when philosophical concepts become issues of wider cultural attention, because they’re always sensationalized and misused and end up becoming political signifiers.
It reminds me of how tech billionaires started bringing up the simulation hypothesis to seem smart on
Understood. Do you have any theories of mind you’re more or less partial toward?
I’m not trying to lift one way or another on the question, I just don’t think the supposition is absurd enough to be dismissed out of hand.
What would you speculate consciousness is, and do you have any ideas on how it might relate to self?
I think of “consciousness“ or “sentience” as a sort of spectrum as well. For instance, I think mosquitos and plants likely “have” perceptive experiences, but there’s no language or abstraction of themselves back onto themselves, no reflexive thought.
I’m not a fan of trying to hold beliefs, but if pressed to conform to the language of contemporary ontology, I’d posit a sort of panpsychism, which definitely does not exclude the potential for LLMs to have some degree of self awarenes, or even far less complex computer programs.
I don’t think that’s actually contrary to their point, their post just wasn’t worded particularly well.
How I’d phrase it is this: we don’t know what consciousness is, so we cannot determine with any certainty what is or isn’t sentient, from humans to plants, or even microbial lifeforms.
Oh, so Donald Trump can loudly shit his pants in the White House and gets to live there and be the president, but when I loudly shit my pants in the White House I’m told that I’m “disgusting“ and “have to leave the tour.
Most unhinged block list I’ve been added to… so far.
Holy shit lmao
Oh man, that’s a rough reaction. Be careful and be well.
