Weirdest Google AI result I had was trying to research who lived in an old house in the 1920s and it told me 'nobody because it was built in the 17th century'.
Never played Skyrealms of Jorune or even seen a copy 'in the wild' but it certainly looked interesting from reviews.

It was tinned haggis night tonight as that was all we could find - a bit salty but not too bad.
I hope those who celebrate Burns night had a good one.
What was the video?

The sequel to John Gordon's 'Giant Under the Snow', 'Ride the Wind' is really hard to find, but I discovered there is a copy in the Merril Collection in the Lillian H. Smith branch, Toronto Library.
www.torontopubliclibrary.ca/merril/
Today I sat down and read it cover to cover (its reference only).
I wondered if he would risk touching it...

10.01.2025 22:37 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Alas aside from being a criminal the judge applied no actual punishment of any kind. The America justice system cant be a true justice system while it has politically appointed judges and different legal standards depending on wealth and power.
Its a bad joke, and Americans should be ashamed of it.
Me too - plus my keyboard has a few letters that dont press well so sometimes they get missed and my post looks silly.
10.01.2025 04:09 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Its a pretty common one from what ive seen. No idea how representative it is though.
09.01.2025 02:46 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Im getting a few conversations which is good.
09.01.2025 02:45 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0btw - this is my first real conversation on Bluesky. I struggle a bit with the character limit (though that might be a good thing, I can be too verbose) but I do want to thank you for showing me its perfectly possible to have a good discussion here!
08.01.2025 20:32 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Good example.
Ive seen a lot of people getting others to create free AI art for them on rpg FB communities that Im pretty sure they are reusing as if they did them btw. It might be the interior stuff is their AI stuff but the cover was done by someone else.
On the 'Luddite' thing, I do think its valid to have concerns about how tech gets used, and there are definitely issues with AI. I'm happy to experiment creatively with it, but there are issues around it.
08.01.2025 20:26 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Hmm... thats weird as if its AI one should be able to do all the interior work to the same standard and style as the cover. Thats one of its big advantages.
08.01.2025 20:22 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Scale of the accessibility of the AIs strikes me as a bigger issue for artists as its increasing low skilled competition, which is exactly what digital did and why fees stagnated.
What people use and how they got it in itself actually has zero practical effect for artists. Its how its used.
Which is fair enough. Though I must admit I would be curious to see what they did with Midjourney and if its any good (most isnt).
08.01.2025 20:11 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Thats pretty much most art though. Its how *traditional* and even more so many digital artists work - its all based on a foundation of other peoples unpaid for and uncredited work. Sometimes you will see artists mention their influences, but rarely see them mention their visual references.
08.01.2025 20:09 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I smell freelance word rate discourse coming.
Let's do some basic maths on full time writing work.
Take:
the number of days you write as that day's work as X
the average number of words you output on those days as Y
the average word rate you get paid as Z
X * Y * Z = your annual earnings
I wouldn't pay for basic AI, nor would I charge for it. I would pay an experienced artist creating quality work to a brief using AI as a part of their process to speed things up, largely because typical freelance rates, especially for rpgs, are an unlivable bad joke.
08.01.2025 20:01 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Similar issue with art. Though add to that the way freelance art fees have pretty much been stagnant since the late 80s across most of the illustration field generally, not just with rpgs, and rpgs pay some of the worst rates.
08.01.2025 19:54 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Britain was liberated from it in the last election.
08.01.2025 19:08 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I find the character limit annoying, though its probably good for me as I get too verbose. Like Twitter it just doesn't feel as social to me though - more like throwing statements out at people rather than being a conversation.
08.01.2025 19:05 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I can understand the dislike of people charging for basic prompting and not telling someone its AI.
I have been experimenting with Midjourney as a trad/digital artist and have mixed feelings. Some do put a lot of work and skill into how they use AI, others dont and it can be hard to tell.
A really interesting find.
15.11.2024 20:13 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Thanks - writing it is a steep learning curve. Knowing when to stop researching and adding is so hard! Standing stones and graveyards play a part. I will check out your book!
15.11.2024 20:04 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0It feels strange but refreshing reading posts like yours when so much elsewhere feels kinda toxic. Tomb With a View got a great review in the Guardian if that's yours. I'm writing and illustrating a supernatural pen and paper rpg set in 1920s Edinburgh but if I get the chance Glasgow is next.
