Something that I often find myself struggling to understand is how so many people can recognize un-fun, undesirable, or outright manipulative design in games and call it out as such... only to then invest substantially more time into the games that do those things.

It drives me absolutely nuts now, every time I see it or a variant of it.

I had not! I'm aware of it though. I took a cursory glance at a longplay, and it looks like it's similar to the CTB system as well (from FFX)? Actually, for that matter, I know FFT and FFX are similar turn-based systems, though I don't know the underlying mechanics for FFX's system.

I think I was trying something similar in turn order to what you're doing--using FFT's turn-system as the basis--where it would track and increment everyone's turn count until someone had > 100, the highest would go, then it would subtract 100 upon completion of their turn, rinse and repeat.

Found some screenshots, I don't even remember if I still have the project. Definitely remember working on this, though.

We did local multiplayer! Actually, to be honest, I don't remember if I ever got it setup to work with two different controllers, haha. It was the first project I'd tried in Unity as the solo dev, was back in about 2016 or something.

That's cool! I had done something similar years ago because I wanted to make a "competitive turn-based RPG battler" with 2 teams of 4 against eachother as a game jam project, but found out it had a few more challenges than I was expecting.

How devious is it for all these big companies, like Google, to push everyone to pivot to video, only to introduce AI that summarizes videos in text.

Really? Only thing that was putting me off of trying Bazzite was the concern that my NVIDIA GPU might not work so well. If you've been having smooth sailing though, I might make the leap to a dual boot.

The game was absolutely wild, it was one of my dad's favourites, though I never really got too far into it as a kid. The sheer shifts in mechanics remind me of Super Ninja Boy on SNES.

Crawling out of my hole to say that I just finished watching Our Flag Means Death S2, and it was honestly probably one of my all-time favourite shows. I didn't expect a pirate show to be so heartwarming, but it really truly was. Bit sad it won't get a 3rd season, but it was delightful nonetheless.

I've heard it's a very interesting game!
