rough paper is really hard to use with portraits for me because everything looks so harsh and textured. it works with animal fur but i’d love to get my portraits as soft looking as you. below is an example of a recent portrait I did on rough paper

I usually use Arches rough because I love the amount of pigment it grabs onto. It helps with those deep values but it makes everything look very harsh. thank you. I’ll get some of the paper you use and see how it looks with my style of painting 😋
