Saw a post about hosting a relay for 34$, but compared to masto it’s a lot harder to have independence

For Mastodon for example, your identity is tied to a server. Sure you can move servers. However, when a server is gone, you can’t. Therefore it’s fair to claim it’s tied to a server. For bluesky you can’t easily migrate your account, right?

At least my understanding is that Fedi is correct in all sections and I can’t see what’s wrong about bluesky, either.

Not to say that it is missing someone sections like adaption, funding, cost of running a node and number of popular independent implementations

Yeah, but when I was younger I never had the money to get a good graphics card and consoles just had the games available. Plus you could easily play with friends at one console. Today, I have a MacBook as my own laptop, because I’m a musician, and use my Linux work laptop for personal software dev

Don’t stress distribution choices too much. With time you will probably develop a taste and if you are interested enough switch distributions a few times. I started with pop!_OS 5+ years back, used Fedora, switched to Arch, then Alpine and use openSUSE Tumbleweed at work at SUSE

There are distributions aimed at gaming, specifically. The one you mentioned, SteamOS isn’t available apart from the Steamdeck, yet. However, there are bazzite.gg or nobaraproject.org which build upon on Fedora Linux. In the past I personally mostly used Fedora directly

I am primarily gaming on Switch, but I have played video games on various Linux distributions in the past (even several years ago). Short answer, check www.protondb.com and maybe dual boot.

Idk if you know about PostmarkedOS but it’s a Linux distro for phones, but there is no reason to not run it on desktop and tablet. They help people with device bringup sometimes and it would probably make for a fun stream
