yes we have several package managers you can install and use to build things like images. Also our open build service letโ€™s you build packages for several distributions

Alpine Linux Is Moving to a /usr-merged File System Layout - 9to5Linux The Alpine Linux distribution will adopt a /usr-merged file system layout for future Alpine Linux releases starting with Alpine Linux 3.23.

"The main advantage of the /usr merge change is that there will be a single location for the distribution to install executables and libraries. Also, the /usr-merged setup is the standard in most of the Linux ecosystem": Alpine Linux Is Moving to a /usr-merged File System Layout

Safe C++ proposal is not being continued 58 comments

Yeah a lot of people are pushing for it, but itโ€™s also not in C++26 for a reason. I learned about Circle lang, cool project, gives fil-c vibes. Iโ€™m not sure if this was the best solution, especially with memory tagging on horizon. Interesting comment on the incompatibilities

Itโ€™s not that surprising that they want to prioritise Cpp profiles, which are just another approach to safety. I honestly think itโ€™s a better fit for the cpp community, compared to just making Cpp Rust

I think both are maintained by similar people, but one is Qt and the other gtk. Never used any of them tho

For realโ€ฆ canโ€™t wait for it to come to macOS. General availability would fix a lot of the problems with existing C code

Yeah, I sometimes have function taking both parameters and input via stdin, you can access it via read or cat. Furthermore, you can โ€œpass functionsโ€ by name and using eval to call them, so Iโ€™d say functionalish haha

I feel like I would love Haskell, but the amount of extensions is scary and I kinda have a solid toolbox with C, Go, Swift, JS and POSIX shell already. Haskell would only be able to replace Go

Does functional JavaScript count? XD

On a serious note, I really appreciate Elm and liked Elixir, but I probably would like Gleam even more. Ocaml is a marvellous technology, but I donโ€™t like exceptions, the lack of type hints makes it difficult to read and the tooling situation was a bit difficult

Memory Integrity Enforcement: A complete vision for memory safety in Apple devices - Apple Security Research Memory Integrity Enforcement (MIE) is the culmination of an unprecedented design and engineering effort spanning half a decade that combines the unique strengths of Apple silicon hardware with our adv...

Apple just released an always-on synchronous memory tagging system and hardened user- and kernelspace allocators. This makes use-after-free and buffer overflows an instant crash and non-exploitable. Intra-allocation buffer overflows are still exploitable, but rare
