I am actually a believer in the importance of branding, but it will be fascinating to see whether the reputational damage from the University of Warwickβs risible exercise leads to net harm. Itβs possible that it wonβt.

Two warriors clash with shields and spears, shoeless and wearing only briefs and helmets. One on the left has bleeding wound in his chest, one on left has one on his left thigh.
Colours are a deep red and gold on white background, and the figures have shading and lines to emphasise their strong physiques.
The ground is a lighter red and there is a band with black and dark red, top and bottom of a light red continuous arrow shaped motif.

Warriors in bloody combat, perhaps to the death in elite funerary rite.
Such battles may be origin of gladiatorial games.
Livy says 1st games were in Campania 310BC + schools also started there.

Itβs why these systems are so hard to break. Once someone believes their cruelty is virtue, no amount of evidence changes that. Itβs not just a matter of facts. itβs identity, narrative, and belonging all fused together.

A church tower with a tall, pointed red roof rises above a cluster of traditional buildings, partially hidden behind lush green trees and dense foliage. The tower features a clock face and arched windows, set against a backdrop of forested hills under a partly cloudy blue sky.
