Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

Identity politics have overcome common sense. Someone said last week, having a Republican vote for a Democrat is like asking a Husker to cheer for the Hawkeyes, or a Chiefs fan to cheer for the Raiders. We have to educate folks that the “teams” people root for are starving families and kidnapping.

I was the only Democrat on a 6 person school board ballot, in a big red district. Top 3 vote getters win - I came in 2nd, and the top vote getter is a gal whom the local GOP refused to endorse- the 2 of us knocked on doors, constantly, built relationships on the basic platform of being normal.
