International human rights laws, and the ECHR, will be subject to change over the coming years. The question now is: who will lead this change?
My article for @thetimes.com, with @dantomlinson.bsky.social, on the need for progressives to shape reform of the ECHR.π

Itβs great! You should check it out. Good course for a PB! Did Rother Valley country park half marathon a while ago.
12.06.2025 12:40 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The Tories canβt have it both ways.
Do they support investment in our NHS, and the difficult decisions made to pay for it?
Or are they happy with growing waiting lists, crumbling hospitals and more ill-health?
Until they answer that, they are not remotely serious.
The Chancellor changed Tory fiscal rules last autumn so we could properly invest in Britainβs security and prosperity. This was the change the country needed - and voted for.
A very welcome statement yesterday by the Chancellor using these new tools for the countryβs priorities. πΉπ
Thank you to @jakerichardsmp.bsky.social who sits on the Home Affairs Select Committee for raising the vital issue of refugee children being wrongly placed in adult asylum hotels. Many refugee children we and @helenbamber.bsky.social. @humansforrights.bsky.social work with are wrongly judged adult.

28.03.2025 14:24 β π 1 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0Quote of the day from Kemi Badenoch:
βFor too long, politics has been about winning elections, not planning for the future. I want to change that.β
Yesterday, the OBR confirmed that Labourβs planning reforms are working.
And we are just getting started.
Enjoyed a thoughtful discussion with Harry Cole and Sir Simon Clarke @TheSun @LabourGrowth
It doesnβt take into account a plethora of measures to get people back into work and to tackle poverty.
26.03.2025 16:42 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Thank you, @jakerichardsmp.bsky.social, for highlighting gambling suicides in last night's adjournment debate.

Labour is the Party of working people - and we must always support people to work if they can, whilst ensuring those who cannot live with dignity.
Thatβs good for the individual, their families, our communities, and wider society.
@BBCNewsnight last night on welfare reform πi
Congratulations to @jakerichardsmp.bsky.social talking sense on @bbcnewsnight.bsky.social and standing up for Labour values.
17.03.2025 23:02 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Darren, youβve messaged on social media a lot over the last week. I cant respond to all of them. A lot of what you have said is simply not true. Iβd ask you to email me (you have my address) and we can find a time to talk properly about the serious issue you raise. Jake

02.03.2025 13:48 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Iβm totally unapologetic about the governmentβs decision to prioritise defence spending and our countryβs security.
Labour is the Party of Atlee and Bevin, central to the creation of NATO and fervent in our support for our armed services.
My response to @Keir_Starmerβs statementπ
Very strong statement from the Prime Minister. The Leader of the Opposition, meanwhile, never fails to get the tone wrong.
25.02.2025 12:53 β π 4 π 1 π¬ 2 π 0Looks like not a single one of Reform UK's five MPs made it into the Commons for David Lammy's update on a momentous week for Ukraine.
(Two of them were present for the UQ on electric cars minutes before, but then left the chamber).
The most striking result from yesterdayβs German election #btw2025 π©πͺ:
πΉ 35 years after reunification: The GDR is redrawn on this map.
πΉ The AfD won 45 out of 48 electoral districts in the East.
πΉ In some parts of Saxony, they came close to 50%!
Why is this happening? Hereβs my take π
Exit poll from Germany. Itβs bad but could have been a lot worse.
