Stolen iPhones are locked tight, until scammers phish your Apple ID credentials Stolen iPhones are hard to hack, so thieves are phishing the owners instead. How fake β€˜Find My’ messages trick victims into sharing their Apple ID login.

Lost an iPhone? Be careful when you get a message that it was found.

Breakthrough Antisense Oligonucleotide TreatmentsΒ Explained Claire's story highlights her transformation from a child with spinal muscular atrophy to one able to walk and communicate, thanks to the breakthrough antisense oligonucleotide therapy, Spinraza. This therapy symbolizes hope for many genetic conditions, though challenges remain, including delivery difficulties, side effects, high costs, and the need for further research in efficacy and access.

Antisense Oligonucleotides or ASOs are another of the modern therapy options available to patients suffering from rare diseases.

Amen to that! We need more geneticists but we should also improve genetic/genomic education for other specialties.

@geneticssociety.bsky.social should encourage members to post on Bluesky. The exodus from X was significant earlier this year but some remained on X. There is a way to set a stream for #ASHG25 on Bluesky that makes it more accessible for followers.

Talk to your reps if you are in US but also to you members of parliament in any other country. Politicians need to hear it from scientists. Advancements in healthcare are build on primary research successes.

Understanding AAV Therapies: A Breakthrough for GeneticΒ Diseases Baby Josephine and her sister Evelyn both faced spinal muscular atrophy type 1. Traditional treatments failed, but Evelyn's participation in a clinical trial for the gene therapy Zolgensma transformed her life. Despite its $2.1 million cost and risks, early intervention with Zolgensma significantly improved outcomes for children diagnosed with SMA.

AAv therapies have been around for a while but the novel approaches position them to treat some very serious genetic diseases. They are not without problems but you can learn more from this article.

Revolutionizing Sickle Cell Treatment withΒ CRISPR Victoria Grey, diagnosed with sickle cell disease (SCD) at three months, defied a seven-year life expectancy, suffering for 34 years. Traditional treatments failed until she participated in a groundbreaking CRISPR trial, successfully reactivating healthy hemoglobin production. Victoria is now pain-free, showcasing the potential of genetic medicine to cure chronic conditions.

CRISPR-driven genome editing can be used to create treatments for rare diseases. In this post we look at how a treatment for sickle cell disease is changing lives of patients.

Beyond Pills and Surgery: The Therapeutic Revolution HappeningΒ Now For over a century, traditional medicine offered pills and surgery, effectively managing many conditions. However, it often falls short for genetic diseases. The advent of precision therapies, such as CRISPR and AAV gene therapy, marks a revolutionary shift, curing root causes rather than managing symptoms, thus transforming patient outcomes.

Next generation therapies are here and we can cure more diseases than we ever thought possible. Patients with rare genetic diseases, once incurable, can get a treatment that changes their life. That said these treatments come with some risks, and high price tags.
