There is possibility in Continency.
We need to remember that and not feel hopeless.

We cannot surrender to this moment.

What we do matters.
We have friends from within.

History Matters #285

Declaring your enemies as โ€œenemies from withinโ€--
that kind of language is blatantly dangerous, blatantly undemocratic.

Ultimately one of the things at the heart of democracy is dissent, disagreement.
There isnโ€™t only one way to see things. 1/

How a president behaves, shapes a national reputation to an extreme degree.

But it's not the only thing.

The full reputation of a nation is bound up in us, not just the president. ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ

Today in my "Age of Hamilton & Jefferson" course we discussed Jefferson's belief that Americans need to be educated because only by understanding their nation & its history can they recognize threats & defend it

An educated public was a tool against tyranny.

Yup.
Thus current attacks on knowledge.

Thank you for coming to my podcast! (Particularly for the first time!)

I'll post the link once the discussion gets posted.

My topic today was:
Is This Violence Different?

In some ways, yesโ€”it is.
And history has a lot to say about it.

Performative acts of resistance matter.

Displays of resistance matter.

They show that resistance is possible.

It shows you are not alone

They show that there is a We, a big group of people who donโ€™t like whatโ€™s going on.

Those in power can see that there is resistance and other people can see it as well.

It does a lot of good. 1/
