we call ourselves 'post-nowists' which means anything to get over the perpetual hypermoment of old world consensus culture.

I mean just look at that description for a moment and it’s…that’s nailed on a WI member isn’t it? That’s obviously a WI member. Works in the local charity a few days a week. Church goer. And the tories have decided to decry her.

The Tory party coming out against middle aged nature lovers who respond to public consultations about bank notes absolutely shows that they have no idea who *any* element of their putative coalition are anymore

(one reason why I suspect that - despite the often shambolic and spectacularly unpopular nature of this government’s offer - a Labour majority in 2029 is underpriced is this right wing habit of flitting from subject to subject shrieking at the top of their lungs that this is the worst thing EVAH)

I mean it’s only a few days ago that a couple of mean girl Truth Social posts from Trump was apparently the biggest humiliation this country has received since the fall of Singapore. Remember that? That was in the last 7 days.

The problem with the British right is once out of power, they are a bunch of hyperbolic hysterics. This is trying enough in normal times, but in the current environment it’s genuinely exhausting

Didn’t say they would be. I said the Lib Dems wouldn’t be remotely close to getting in.

I just don’t think they are going to turn around the 20k deficit in either Worthing seat.

(Not least because they aren’t in with a shout in either constituency)

Right so your thesis here is because Generation X in Worthing remember their grandparents liking Churchill, they are going to vote Lib Dem because Ed Davey releases a video decrying Churchill being replaced on the bank notes?

I think that’s bollocks.

The Lib Dems are a party of the Celtic regions as well as being a challenger to the tories in the south east (indeed, that’s where they retreated to for decades), and those regions have different conflicting memories of Churchill. But also, there are still no votes in this silliness, wherever.

But also, there’s a huge leap being made here isn’t there? “Our grandparent’s generation respected Churchill” (dependent on where you are from, that one. I can think of areas of the country it really doesn’t hold) doesn’t = “there are votes in being personally affronted he’s no longer on currency”

Entirely prepared to be proven wrong, but I suspect the vast vast vast majority of people couldn’t give a pair of fetid dingoes kidneys about this subject.

Ed Davey doing silly things for attention DURING THE ELECTION CAMPAIGN was taken as a bit of fun because it was during the election campaign. Outside of that timeslot it does feel a tiny bit desperate and silly.

Honestly - no offence meant to Rob - think this is an over-reading, I suspect this much more likely to be read as a “haven’t you people got jobs to be doing” moment

Yeah I think on the one hand there’s Third Party Bid For Attention, but on the other there’s Silly And Attention Grabbing But Not In A Good (Bungee Jumping Off A Cliff During The Campaign) Way
