A wild, enraging chart from @wencyleung.bsky.social's exclusive for @thelocal.to. Schools use unqualified non-teachers when they can't find a supply. But in the last years what was once a rare emergency measure has become a standard part of how the TDSB operates. thelocal.to/tdsb-emergen...

"When Premier Doug Ford announced his plan to build a 50-kilometre tunnel under Highway 401..the initial studies and expert feedback were left unmentioned.
Instead, Ford claimed his opponents would say the project was impossible."

Canada’s the only country having over 60% with a tertiary education.
This isn’t a numbers competition: it explains Canada’s values, “Education can promote gender equality, reduce child marriage, promote peace”
Education promotes decency.

05.08.2025 11:24 — 👍 25 🔁 11 💬 3 📌 3Image is a scree grab showing confirmation of a charitable donation. The organization is Shades of Hope Wildlife Rescue. Their logo is a black oval, within which are silhouettes of animals and birds against an orange, yellow and red sunny sky backdrop. The caption reads, 'Thank you for your donation!' Website: https://www.shadesofhope.ca/
We don't have a lot of money, but we made a small donation this morning. There are a lot of costs associated with wildlife rehab and Shades of Hope is a registered Canadian charity.
So ends the tale of our two wee orphaned mice. It's rough out there, but with hope you find the helpers.
They are so tiny and barely able to hold themselves up. We can't find a nest anywhere, but are so glad they will be helped for a few more weeks.
If you can offer support with a donation, Shades of Hope is an amazing place, with great space for wildlife rehab. It was a lovey outing this morning.
Babies have been safely received by Shades of Hope. We were told they are likely about 10 days old. Usually mice leave the nest at 3 weeks, we were told. So the guess is the two wee ones came out of the nest for help, that mum left them, or something happened to her, causing them to leave nest. 1/2
05.08.2025 13:52 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Today is National Underwear Day so here’s a briefs thread of international phrases about underwear, starting with this one…
A slang Finnish word for getting drunk at home in just your underwear is kalsarikännit. It means “pants drunk.”
Babies made it through the night, thank goodness! We're on the way to the wildlife rescue centre now, to be there for when they open at 8am. Hope they don't mind a car ride, and that being snug in their box with towels and warmth keeps them okay until we get there. I am so worried about dehydration.
05.08.2025 10:21 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0One of the many things I love about my partner is that, while we waited for mum to - we hoped - return, we were, independent of each other, searching online for a rescue centre. Lots of people (most?) would be, like, mice!? Nah. But neither he nor I could let wee ones suffer without trying to help.

04.08.2025 23:23 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Photos make it hard to tell, these wee ones are about 1 1/2 inches long. When we found them, they were trembling. One of the two is a bit feisty, so we hope that is a good sign. Now that they are protected and being kept warm, they are chill and sleeping, no more trembling. Will I sleep tonight? 🤣

We waited, hoping mum would return for them, but they are so tiny and vulnerable. So, after we called the wildlife rescue, we've just been doing what they've instructed.
