She Lives In Hope
#00sTop30 (xii) ‘She Lives In Hope’ #JohnShuttleworth. Ever masterful wordplay from Graham Fellows, as well as tinkling on whatever Yamaha portable keyboard (if it was a Yamaha) he may have used. I’ve enjoyed the views from Lose Hill and Win Hill :-) m.youtube.com/watch?v=rmi0...

Music Is Math, by Boards of Canada
from the album Geogaddi
#00sTop30 (xi) ‘Music Is Math’ #BoardsOfCanada. Built mostly around a beautiful pattern of chimes; this is definitely a comforting composition. boardsofcanada.bandcamp.com/track/music-...

Providing it can be ascended to, how about Brent Knoll Camp? From there can be seen centuries of wetland landscape management, transport, power generation and touristic history, parts of two countries, Channel with the second highest tidal range on earth etc as well as Iron Age hillfort remains :-)

Thanks for letting me know :-) I must say I find it to be a really uplifting song.

YouTube video by Rough Trade Records
Sea Power - Waving Flags
#00sTop30 (x) ‘Waving Flags’ #SeaPower. A song seemingly celebrating freedom of movement (as in the EU kind) and, apparently, part inspired by a banner seen at a UEFA Cup match. The chorus section sounds joyously anthemic. m.youtube.com/watch?v=w2n-...

LCD Soundsystem - Someone Great (Official Video)
#00sTop30 (ix) ‘Someone Great’ #LCDSoundsystem. A fine observational lyric and that slow bouncing synth bass are just two components that help make this rather great… m.youtube.com/watch?v=qwoL...

DEPECHE MODE - THE SINGLES 1981 TO 2021 PART 47: WRONG
A blog about Depeche Mode, electronic music and the Scottish music scene
#00sTop30 (viii) ‘Wrong’ #DepecheMode. Maybe the most knowingly Bas Vegas-esque the group had been since careering onto the ‘Useless’ video in a Ford Cortina, this is quite an onslaught. More from the blog of @davidjmcelroy.bsky.social here… almostpredictablealmost1.blogspot.com/2021/11/depe...

Papillon (Editors song) - Wikipedia
#00sTop30 (vii) ‘Papillon’ #Editors. Seemingly designed to pound from speakers, flaunting a DNA possibly involving Joy Division’s ‘Transmission’ & ‘Running Up That Hill’ by Kate Bush, this is (seriously) a track I find good to do non-cooking kitchen chores to. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Papillo...

Boy from School - Wikipedia
#00sTop30 (vi) ‘And I Was A Boy From School’ #HotChip. Apparently the title was shortened for its single release (I only have the LP.) With a sort of soft-disco chug, clear melodies and infectious singalong sections this is just a rather nice record. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boy_fro...

Galvanize (song) - Wikipedia
#00sTop30 (v) ‘Galvanize’ #TheChemicalBrothers. More collage than composition, with key elements including Q-Tip’s “my finger is on the button” and Najat Aatabou’s glorious melody. Heard at so many events & parties since; a record for bringing people together. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galvani...

Hands (Little Boots album) - Wikipedia
#00sTop30 (iv) ‘Hands’ #LittleBoots. An inventive piano song tucked away at the end of a very (of its time) contemporary pop-oriented LP (see link below); the co-writers, electronics and autotune are gone and we just have Victoria Hesketh doing something great. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hands_(...

#00sTop30 (iii) ‘Intro’ #TheXX. Exceptionally tasteful in its arrangement, this is a very fine example of anticipation, then release and a final “what might be next?” in musical form. www.shazam.com/song/3294811...

Elektro Kardiogramm – Kraftwerk: Songtexte, Musikvideos & Konzerte
Hör dir „Elektro Kardiogramm“ von Kraftwerk an. Sieh dir Liedtexte und Musikvideos an, finde Tourdaten von Kraftwerk, kaufe Konzertkarten und vieles mehr!
#00sTop30 (ii) ‘Elektro Kardiogramm’ #Kraftwerk. The 1983 ‘Tour de France’ single was IMHO a perfect evocation of the event, needing no further exploration; this, with its human rhythmic components, pretty synth motif and gruff vocal, is a satisfying descendent though. www.shazam.com/de-de/song/7...

What You Don't Like, by Marsheaux
from the album Peek A Boo
#00sTop30 (i) ‘What You Don’t Like’ #Marsheaux. With a verse melody echoing ‘Being Boring’ and chorus ‘Blue Monday’, this was my introduction to the duo. Delivered with intent and apparently features a Yamaha #CS01 (I use one of those in my musical doodlings!) marsheaux.bandcamp.com/track/what-y...

The “pro indiviso feu” involving Mains Loan was part of a first year town planning assignment when I was a student at the Uni/DJCA (technically we were part of the former but housed in the wondrous Matthew Building of the latter.) Somewhere I still have site visit photos!

Pure fantasy this, but: Edinburgh using the South Sub, with one pre-metro section involving a stop in Portobello and another tunnel from Piershill to Haymarket, featuring underground stations at Meadowbank, Holyrood, Waverley and Usher Hall. Glasgow Subway extension would be great / romantic.

This event we’re hosting at @thebaytrust.bsky.social includes a section on the sound of soil - like a live “underground” version of a @radiolento.bsky.social podcast or field recording albums I enjoy (e.g. @david-soulscorch.bsky.social or @modernaviation.bsky.social ‘Look to Imber’ come to mind.)

I have to say the #PortOfDover staff #volunteering for us at @thebaytrust.bsky.social #ThePinesGarden did some fantastic work. New log seating installed, overgrowth clearances and creation of a log pile for our #GenerationRestoration gardens among it all! @unbiodiversity.bsky.social

As someone working in environmental education, including with a chalk geology straddling the Channel, it’s maybe no surprise I think this report makes for positive reading. Good to see steps proposed for a series of interconnected health, socio-economic & environmental benefits.

A fine question - and I looked up the 2025 criteria as a result! Although they’d be very personal takes, involving time & place, it’d be interesting to try ‘Music for the Masses’ #DepecheMode, ‘Fin de Siècle’ #TheDivineComedy, ‘Silver Eye’ #Goldfrapp or ‘Who’s Afraid of #TheArtOfNoise?’

It was great to host this at @thebaytrust.bsky.social yesterday. More than 300 folk came to the #PinesCalyx to see it. Pupils’ work had been part inspired by #Cezanne #ChrisOfili and ancient Egyptian sarcophagi, plus more besides. We’ll have some photos soon.

Fantastic to see the #CoatOfHopes visited @thebaytrust.bsky.social #PinesGarden last weekend. Made originally for a pilgrimage from Newhaven (Sussex) to #COP26 it’s not had too much #BlueSky coverage, though I noticed both @bradfordcathedral.org.uk & @myzerocarbon.org have posted on it recently :-)

I was really looking forward to attending this, but something landed on my desk today which means I’ll be elsewhere (actually in an eco-building - #PinesCalyx.) Hope it goes well for everyone at the @asbpuk.bsky.social @passivhaustrust.bsky.social Exemplar Sustainable Building Awards tomorrow.

It was certainly inconvenient, closing the Trust’s tea room for the weekend too. There were lots of sympathetic potential customers walking by & chatting with us (we’re on the #CoastalPath.) Debris washes along a road from the Downs in very heavy rains; our main entrance is at a dip in that road.
