24.04.2025 19:35 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Julie was such a great nurse β€οΈ she has not been forgotten.
09.03.2025 17:40 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I don't want a bigger Emergency Department.
I want a functioning social care system and a primary care service that can meet demand.
If we don't get that, the blockage in ED is going to get worse and more people are going to come to harm and die.

Starting to realise I just don't have the love for this kind of SoMe anymore. The little people in my phone have seen me through so much it feels weird to be leaving you all behind on here or the other place...but I've just lost the love π€·ββοΈ

12.02.2025 19:55 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Call the midwife is speaking for a generation of healthcare professionals tonight.
"I'm tired, worse than tired. What good do we do, what difference do we make?"
"They keep on coming, and we keep on going, because that is the pact we made."
I am apparently a nun in 1970s Poplar.
Genuinely think that spending longer than 20mins on scene could prevent ED attendance a lot of the time π€·ββοΈ

20.01.2025 17:11 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I can't believe it's now at 48 hour breach that gets heaven and earth moved to find a bed. 48 hours. ED nurses are very good at what we do, but we're not good at doing that AND being ward nurses simultaneously - we don't have the staff, the space, the infrastructure - even if we have the skills.
19.01.2025 00:39 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Wrong side of the stethoscope ATM and feeling immensely guilty for needing care when the system is under so much strain. Trying to remember...own oxygen mask first! Grateful to be home overnight...can't be leaving these two unattended around the treat jars clearly π

18.01.2025 20:35 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I left an empty corridor this morning after the most refreshingly lovely shift. It makes me sad that a good shift is no ambulance queuing and only 2 corridors in use but I'll take the wins where I can!
12.01.2025 07:36 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yup. I have used my impending nightshift as a reason to stay under my duvet and heated blanket all day.
11.01.2025 16:25 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Blue skies, blue toes. It may be beautiful but I'm ready for Spring now pretty please βοΈ
10.01.2025 23:51 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Speaking about heading in for another night shift, a nurse said:
"I'm dreading it cos it was the worst night ever last night. But I'm gonna try & get some sleep & go in positive. I'm just trying to help people"
We can't keep expecting this of NHS staff, we just can't.

Our trust contracted vaccinating out this year. Would be interested to see the impact it's had on uptake over someone walking the wards jabbing people whenever/wherever they are available and wanting to have it π€·ββοΈ

A&E consultant, Prof Rob Galloway, addressed conference poignantly yesterday on patient safety, moral injury and so-called (and for too long now formally defined) 'Corridor Care':
"I don't provide 'care' in a corridor; I provide treatment. You can't provide proper care in a corridor."
I am absolutely broken in two by my shifts this weekend in ED. I have nothing left to give and yet the system and the public will forever tell us to "do more" and "do better". I have nothing left to give.
09.12.2024 09:25 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I've done the online mandatory. For me? Learned nothing. But that's coming from someone well versed in caring for patients with LD. I'm not the target audience π€·ββοΈ
06.12.2024 12:30 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Got home from a crazy 12.5 hours in resus and popped my tree up.
I'm grateful for my health and my loved ones (but I also shed a few tears for loved ones much missed).
First Christmas without Grandad feels so very strange.
Absolutely not.
04.12.2024 22:10 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Need to catch up on the Assisted Dying stuff. Lots of strong opinions and emotions around. Not sure quite where I fall on the spectrum aside from that allowing patients a peaceful and pain free death has always been one of the greatest privileges of my nursing career.
