After Loogootee again enacted ordinance language already ruled unconstitutional that denied Pridefest the right to hold the festival in the public square downtown, a federal judge held the city in contempt. The city now has 15 days to comply or face $500 daily fines.

SEA 76 gives Attorney General Todd Rokita sweeping new power to punish schools, hospitals, and local governments accused of limiting cooperation with federal immigration enforcement.
A new Mirror Indy article looks at Indiana’s camping ban, which would allow criminal charges, fines of up to $500, and possible jail time for unhoused people living on public land. The article also highlights concerns from prosecutors and law enforcement about how the law would actually be enforced.

This morning, we filed two federal lawsuits against Ball State University over a policy that bans protests and demonstrations within 50 feet of most campus buildings and the university’s use of campus policy to punish students for protected political expression.
A bill encouraging racial profiling in policing and daily life is headed to the Governor. SB 76 also requires local government to comply with ICE operations and prohibits any "sanctuary policies." Take action now and urge Governor Braun to veto SB 76.
SB 76 has cleared its final vote and now moves to the Governor for consideration.
This bill would pull Indiana deeper into immigration enforcement, increase pressure to cooperate with ICE, and treat detainers like mandatory holds, raising serious due process concerns. We oppose SB 76.
As session nears its end, lawmakers advanced HB 1343, which would authorize a new National Guard “military police force” with the power to make arrests, conduct searches, and carry out law enforcement duties statewide at the governor’s direction.

George P. Stewart was one of the founders of the Indianapolis Recorder, the fourth oldest Black Newspaper in the country. Stewart used the paper to amplify the Black community across Indianapolis, supporting local Black businesses and endorsing political causes.
