Update: Red Line: Due to a trespasser struck by a train at Brookland, shuttle buses are operating between Brookland and Rhode Island Avenue. Customers traveling from Brookland to Fort Totten must take a shuttle bus to Rhode Island Avenue and board a Glenmont-bound train. We appreciate your patience.
This evening @cmzparker5.bsky.social hosted a gathering of Ward 5 leaders to discuss the many things going on in the District, and to hear about what issues and concerns are top of mind in our corners of the District. I appreciated this opportunity to advocate for Edgewood!
@joe5f6.bsky.social
(wow, Bluesky's video compression is bad)
A view of the procession from my porch.
In case you've been curious about the increased MPD presence along Franklin St NE in Edgewood: there's going to be a "demonstration" (a funeral procession, I think) for a fallen member of the fire department around 2:30pm.
The resolution and letter are available on our website www.anc5f.com/documents (the letter is related to the Strategic Bikeways Plan)
We have requested via both an official resolution and letter that DDOT research and propose a plan for east-west protected bike lanes that span from the MBT to Dupont Circle around Q or R Street. There is no existing plan or design to endorse or oppose.
I assume that ANC 5E now recognizes that transportation needs extend beyond commission borders, which is why they are opining on parking that exists solely within ANC 5F. I'm looking forward to a mea culpa on their resolution opposing our request for bike lanes on Q & R Street.
Thanks for reaching out. DDOT hasn't presented an updated plan to us, so I think it's premature to offer formal ANC feedback at this point.
I, too, hope that whatever designs they come to us with prioritize safety.
Instead of mandatory AI training, @octo.dc.gov should institute mandatory BCC training.
πWeβre wrapping up an incredible week of #TranspoBINGO!
Join us TONIGHT, Feb 12, 6 pm at Atlas Brew Works (Bridge District) for our Active Transit Social. Celebrate the week, swap stories, meet fellow players & win prizes.
5-min walk from Anacostia Metro. Free food (while it lasts). Kid-friendly.
A fun part of being an elected official playing #TranspoBINGO is that I can tick squares by doing my job. This week I signed ANC 5F's official letter responding to @ddotdc.bsky.social's Strategic Bike Plan, re-emphasizing our desire for protected bike lanes spanning the District on Q or R Street.
First #TranspoBINGO square! I rode two Metrorail trains from NE (and NW) to get a haircut in Arlington, the old Southwest quadrant.
Looks like they're here! I've also flagged it to @ddotdc.bsky.social and @mayorbowser.dc.gov , but please be careful up close to Dew Drop Inn tomorrow, #bikedc.
Careful MBT riders on Wednesday morning @waba.org
I have boosted this to the Mayor's office and DDOT. Did someone call this in to DC Water?
The latest on trash collection from DPW. Collection is continuing, albeit slightly behind. If your trash hasn't been picked up, leave the can out. Please move any obstacles in alleys to allow the bobcat crews to remove ice and snow to make collection easier.
Sharing the latest snow removal updates, include good news about DPW's progress on trash collection: mailchi.mp/dccouncil/tr...
I spotted a DPW crew clearing a path into a neighboring alley, presumably for trash collection tomorrow.
If your household normally gets Tuesday frontside trash collection, put your trash & recycling bins out front by 6AM Sunday, February 1, for pickup Sunday.
If your household normally gets Monday alley collection: we are bringing in bobcats to clear pathways through alleys, and yours will be prioritized.
Check back on Sunday for an updated collection schedule.
If your household normally gets Monday frontside trash collection, put your trash & recycling bins out front by 6AM Saturday, Jan 31, for pickup tomorrow.
I wonder if these are manual teams followed by the small trucks.
(for context: the District usually doesn't clear the snow in alleys. Given the nature of the build up, this is a welcome relief to those with uncleared alleys)
Interesting tidbit from the Mayor's office regarding trash and recycling pickup:
"Trash service was slid all week and will resume next week. DPW will be clearing alleys that they have to route down to pick up trash."
This alley clearing is a new and necessary development.
Snow Emergency Reminder: Mayor Bowser has declared a Snow Emergency starting today at noon. Vehicles must be moved off Snow Emergency Routes to give snow plows room to work. Clear routes help crews clear streets faster and keep emergency vehicles moving.
Visit π snow.dc.gov for the routes and map.
Good news! Following another vehicle incursion on the trail, and additional news coverage, DDOT has confirmed to us that they are taking steps to protect the entrances to the MBT from drivers.
Props to my colleague @joe5f6.bsky.social for keeping these comms going while I was heads down at work.
They tightened up the planters at S Street following the segment that aired last night. We're pressing them on addressing the other points of ingress.
Yet another car on the trail tonight around 7:30pm at S st NE
Oh man, was anyone hurt? Do you know where they got on and off?
