Lawyer: You don't regret that people might have lost income?

Cavanaugh (DOGE): No, I think it was more important to reduce the federal deficit from two trillion dollars to close to zero.

Lawyer: Did you reduce the federal deficit?

Cavanaugh: No, we didn't.

In the next 24 hours, we can stop a proposed estate tax rate repeal in the Washington State Legislsature.

Senate Bill 6347 would cost $200M in funding to early learning and childcare. Tell your state reps you don’t support balancing the budget on the backs of working families.

Let’s kill SB 6347.

ICE has arrested and detained a Nashville journalist who reported stories critical of ICE. She’s married to a U.S. citizen and has been seeking asylum here after fleeing death threats in Colombia because of her journalism there.

They’ve already sent her to Louisiana.

Need more proof that ensuring the ultra-wealthy pay their share in taxes is a smart idea? Take a look at how much WA over-relies on revenue sources that put the biggest squeeze on people with low & moderate incomes! (And urge your lawmaker to pass the #MillionairesTax) #WaLeg

Nothing novel but thinking this morning about the way Gaza (2023) primed the population to move on quickly (if it registers at all) from the U.S.’s obliteration-by-bomb of hundreds of children at school.

When I ride the new Link extensions, the care that Sound Transit put into elevating trains and protecting pedestrians really underlines the fact that South Seattle got screwed by Sound Transit. Feels like they don’t care if we live or die.

I will never get used to the disdain our country holds for brown and Black children.

From Palestine to Iran to Sudan, we normalize the destruction of schools and hospitals and daycares. We reduce children to death tolls and their futures to rubble with no consequence or second thought.

The U.S. is a country that is unable to handle death but is awash in it. A country with people who often can't process grief. These are terrible things.

WHY DO WE NEED IT?
WA state has the second-most unjust tax code in the nation, just ahead of Florida.
Because of this, the lowest-income residents pay about 14% of their income in state and local taxes while the wealthiest pay just 4%. WHO WILL BENEFIT?
The money would fund everything from schools, to health care, to food assistance programs.
It would also expand our state's tax credit for working people, and remove sales taxes on hygiene products like shampoo and toothpaste. WHAT IS IT?
It is a tax on the highest earners in the state that is projected to raise about $3.5 billion a year.
This would likely be paid by less than 1% of the wealthiest earners in Washington. WHAT IS IT? PT. 2
The proposed tax rate is 9.9% on earnings over $1 million a year.
The tax only applies to the income made after the first million.

The Millionaires Tax to fund schools, health care, & expand the Working Families Tax Credit is halfway to becoming law!

The lies from MAGA Republicans & their wealthy donors are in overdrive. Let's dispel some myths, explain what the Millionaires tax really is, & why working people would benefit:

Thousands of institutions abandoned programs, ended or rewrote scholarships, closed down clubs and publications, all in pre-emptive compliance.

And you know why?

Mostly because they wanted to do it if they thought they could blame someone else for it.

When the higher education sector is organized, we have the power to stop the Trump administration's campaigns against American universities

We are proud of our members and allies at UCLA who successfully blocked Trump from extracting $1.2 billion from UCLA over alleged civil rights violations.
