02.12.2025 23:39 โ ๐ 18 ๐ 11 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Digital drawing of the artist's Shadowrun mage, Lorna, AKA Acheron. She is standing, holding a canine's skull above her head and smiling at the viewer. She wears baggy clothing: a grey sweater, a black jacket, and a black skirt with a slit in the side, showing her thigh. Her eyes are grey and her short hair is dyed teal.

About a day and 15 hours left, maybe with your help we can reach the 5000$ threshold?
By my calculations if we have 150 people donating a dollar every hour we can get to it.
bro they had to be up way past their bed time when they made this ๐

Yeah, now in fairness its also because i've seen the use of those categories and they very much seem to be mostly made to APPLY them to people to explain why they don't agree with someone or don't like a system rather than as a genuine want to categorize things.
28.11.2025 00:17 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Its the assumption that a game either focuses on the story, or on playing well, or on feeling "real" that gets me really, a lot of games do a lot of all of that, in different ways, I do also think its just focused on rulesets doing one thing at a time and not more and that's a limiting view of it
28.11.2025 00:14 โ ๐ 6 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Like an example is Outgunned, which people online love to call a narrative game/narrativist, and while it focuses on narrative (and to be honest, most games do, they just do so through different means) the dice reroll mechanic makes you think in terms of odds of doing better, in a very gamey way
28.11.2025 00:12 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0its multilayered but the bigger one is arguably that it creates barriers between all of those like a game has to be one or the others, often some details about games are just kinda erased for these clarifications to work, like how systems definitely bounce back and forth on the mindset you need
28.11.2025 00:10 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I shit you not I once saw a blogpost with like "the gameist player prefers hard rules over imagination" and "the narrativist player doesn't like reading the rulebook" and its like come on man.
"This game is simulationist because it includes rules for hunger" what are we doing here.
Listen I understand that for some people its easier to imagine the world in this nice little cozy place where you can sort through people in broad categories with simple labels; but like in practice that VERY often falls apart and quickly ends up not being accurate
28.11.2025 00:02 โ ๐ 12 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0All of these blogposts and thinkpieces trying to categorize players in these convenient groups always feel like they're trying to categorize above being accurate, beyond play patterns I think looking at systems someone enjoys and going "yeah you're a gameist" is just weird tbh
28.11.2025 00:01 โ ๐ 13 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Recent events have gotten me thinking about how I've started to call the process of categorizing broad ideas of play (narrativist/gameist/simulationist to name a few) as "Gamer Astrology" or "Gamer Phrenology" if i'm being unkind.
I think these labels suck and are not useful
My name is John Sega and let me tell you about how youโll need to buy my epic new "fixed" game now
Do you want unnecessary cutscenes that add nothing to the game beyond a bit of fluff and they look out of place too? That new version is for you then
"I wonder what's going over on twitter"
How its going on twitter:
If you find an indie game you like, PLEASE talk about it on social media. You can make a developer go from being completely unknown to actually able to make money just by spreading the word.

25.11.2025 23:06 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0The fact that itch posted this and not even an hour later I got a bunch of new sales proves how big it is when other people talk about your games.

Hornet bounces off a Chorus Bug's head, as a number of others all peer upwards. Hornet herself is framed by the Citadel, towers and structures all reaching into the sky as they surround her with barbs and lace. Silk follows her, gathered from the bug she just bonked in the head, as she raises one claw and readies her needle with the other.

We did something different with the credits for Demonschool. We used this format: name, title, lengthy description of what they did. Often you see credits in games where you don't know what the credited developer was actually responsible for. We wanted to give people proper, actual credit.
