Ethos, Vision, Values and Aims | Euxton Primrose Hill Primary School Euxton Primrose Hill Primary School

Her school is culturally about as diametrically opposite as it is possible to get from the one I’m chair of governors at. Yet here we are; outstanding in all areas, fabulous feedback from pupils and parents and the community. Our ethos, vision, values and aims are just that “ours”. And they deliver.

The unbelievable condescension we’re already seeing today towards working class people- suggesting they don’t travel to Europe or their kids might not want to go to university and study in Europe- is quite something to behold.

An anniversary worth marking.

I'm sure we're going to see the very people who have trashed its legacy seek to appropriate WW2 today - so let's remember what was really fought for: peace, a more united Europe, a land fit for heroes (mark 2) and the defeat of fascism.

I didn't get into comedy to appear on quiz shows, panel shows, Radio 4, do tasks badly, host the Best Vacuum Cleaner awards, post online quips. I had a vague, romantic notion that standing onstage at a mic looked really exciting. That was it. Club comedy is still the most fun I have.

Upside down sign that says 'From another point of view'.

Just to say, if like me your feed is alot of US politics to the exclusion of UK/Ireland accounts, then reposting content you like - even if it's just the picture of a beach - rather than just liking it, really works. My feed has improved (along with some judicious muting) immeasurably.

We’ve set up a society based on addiction. We’re living with the consequences of the addictions of others to the dopamine hits of power, wealth, status, and our own to drugs, sugar, salt, fat, online gambling, porn etc through the mobile phones we use to distract ourselves from those consequences.

A picture of John Major. And then a Viz Letterbocks letter: "On becoming Prime Minister back in 1990, John Major pledged to make Britain 'a classless society'. Having just spent the afternoon in my local Wetherspoons, I have to say he did a pretty fucking thorough job. Craig Scott, East Calder"

Michael Gove used to ban teachers from their profession for life for drug use. He got caught taking cocaine and a few years later he's getting a peerage? It's as clear as day that drug laws are just there to punish the working class.

Moskowitz: When President Zelenskyy came to the White House, we heard a lot about what he was wearing. Oh my God, the precious Oval Office—he didn’t wear a suit! I mean, here’s a picture of Kid Rock in the Oval Office—he looks like he’s about to jump over 10 buses on the White House lawn.

No Healthcare, no Pensions, he won't give anyone anything.

Nigel Farage is the most billionaire owned of all the politicians, and that's some tough competition.

The UK exports £360bn of goods to the EU, on which we now struggle with big non tariff barriers, compared to £60bn to the US. Imagine looking at this sh1tshow and thinking it vindicates Brexit in any way.

Yup. It feels cruel to deny deluded Brexiters their tiny sliver of a ‘win’ but, on the other hand, fuck ‘em. Weakening a country *before* an attack like this is an act of obvious treachery. We would, by any measure, be better off *in* the the EU *with* the 20% basic tariff rate.

I've been trying to find the right ancient history parallel since last night and I think I've finally got it:

It's as if Rome punished the uppity provinces by deciding to sack itself.

Britain’s tax and spend dilemma

Some excellent graphical analysis from the FT as part of the wider conundrum facing the country with a rapidly growing ageing population.

Accompanying the news that “the UK’s public debt burden has surged faster than that of any other big advanced economy since the eve of the Covid-19 pandemic, helping drive up interest payments and limiting the country’s capacity to spend more on defence and care for an ageing population”.

As of last year, more tax revenue was spent on servicing government debt than on education.

Fascinating graph that I’ve never seen before - govt spending vs tax for age groups from the FT

Dear allies, the investigation of the Lithuanian prosecutor’s office has confirmed our suspicions that responsible for setting fires to shopping centres in Vilnius and Warsaw are the Russian secret services. Good to know before negotiations. Such is the nature of this state.
